Just managed to install Ubuntu 6.06 onto my Dell 630m Inspiron laptop.

Had a Windows XP MCE install on the laptop already and managed to get it dual booting with Ubuntu and Grub without a problem.

Was extremely surprised to see that the majority of the laptop hardware was detected and functioning but there are one or 2 problems.

The wireless adapter is an Intel 2200BG. My home wireless network uses WPA2 encryption. It appears that only WEP is supported if I go into the Network settings.

Is WPA2 supported in Ubuntu? If yes, how can I get it working?

The last point is screen resolution. My laptops optimum resolution is 1280x800 yet the maximum I can select is 1024x768.

How can I select a higher resolution? The graphics adapter is an integrated Intel GMA 900 (or similar).

Bit of a Linux noob so I apologise in advance! :p

Many thanks. :)

Not entirely sure about implementing WPA but theoretically wpa_supplicant should enable this functionality.

As for your monitor, you need a small app called 815resolution to override the resolution capabilities of your chipset in the video BIOS. If you do a search for it you should find a previous thread where I talked someone through setting it up :) Alternatively (as for all computer-related things, and in particular linux) google is your friend ;)

The ubuntu forums are chock full of information, helped me get up and running yesterday.

The LiveCD was playing silly buggers for a while, but, eventually, it decided to play ball. All my hardware was picked up, apart from my Radeon X700 (that being the help I needed :)), and I was good to go inside of a minute.

Still have to sort out the media capabilities, and a few niggles with my NAS.
