UCAS Personal Statement

As most people have said, be honest. You can tell a lot about someone on what they write about them selves in this sort of situation. They are not necessarily looking for someone super committed to the course that they spend their weekends flying round the world to help sick people or something. More often than not they want real people who will add to the class and learn something.

My last personal statement got me an MSc interview (very last min) which from the interview I got an unconditional offer to get back into uni at Birkbeck, which I'm ecstatic about :)

But all that came from just being honest about what I am interested in, what iv been doing and who I am. Usually thats the best way to find out if you'll fit into a place too

The course I'm applying to do next year has 30 places and last year received 1200 applications. Never underestimate the importance of your personal statement!

If you have written a personal statement for last year, can you use the same one again?

Please say yes, I cba to do it all over again.

Yes, the plagarism checker will pick it up and they'll realise it's from you and not flag it for the unis to see. You may be advised to add a bit more about what you did this year

Does this so called plagarism detection software actually exist or is it commonly known as Google?!

It does exist, it's basically an automated google search, with the addition of all previous personal statements... it mainly flags up similarities and highlights them for students/unis to see

I am HATING writing my personal statement. Struggling to fit within 4000 characters, so much more I want to say and sell myself with.... ahhhh.

Mate. I was the same. Probably less than a couple of weeks ago my statement was 6000 characters long

It's now 3974 characters long, and yet it's much more detailed and complete than ever before :D

I don't know if it's fully perfect yet, I really need to just send my form off, but I'm just worrying about my ps :(

Cut out unecessary paragraphs and unecessary words. The first time I wrote it, I had waaay too many adjectives. Also are you getting a reference from somebody? There's a couple of things I couldn't mention in my personal statement so they're going in my reference instead.

If you feel comfortable, you could send your statement to me to look over. I'll understand if you don't want to. I'm the 'enemy' as it were :p

I'd love to - enemy or not, I hate what I've written, so much to do, and would love a fresh pair of eyes to have a look!

I'm just putting the skeleton plan of mine together now, I'm finding the 4000 word limit problematic!
