Hi there, I’m looking for a bit of help upgrading my computer. I want to be able to play the soon to be released Age of Conan, but I don’t think my current old workhorse will be able to do it justice. The recommended spec something with: Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz (E6600) or better. Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GTX or better RAM: 2GB or more
Enhanced for: DirectX 10, 64-bit processors, multi-core. But obviously I’m aiming for something a bit better than the recommended so it runs really nicely.

My current system is mobo: A8N-SLI, which has a 939 socket.
AMD Athlon 64 3700 ~2.2GHz
Graphics Card: nvidia 7800 GT
Memory: 2046MB RAM
580W power supply
Hard Disc 250GB

I’ve got a budget of about £800 for just the base unit, so I don’t know if I should upgrade so just buy something like the "Ultima 8800GTX" AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000 3.00GHz Dual Core SILENT DDR2 System. Please let me know what you think.

Andy

What are the brands of your current PSU and hard drive? I'm guessing your memory is DDR as your CPU is Skt939?

Will you be needing an OS?

EDIT: Here's a spec provided you can salvage your current HDD and OS. Otherwise you could drop down to 2 gigs of memory and maybe the E8400/Q6600 to save some cash.

I'm playing the beta at the moment, and my PC manages it OK. [email protected] GHz, 512Mb 8800 GTS and 4 Gb 6400 RAM. Using Vista HP 64 bit. 4Gb RAM is a must as it is very laggy with only 2Gb.

This is only because there is currently a memory leak under the vista OS.

2gb on release if they fix it, should be fine.

But dont expect a release before September.

my PSU is the Hiper 580W HPU-4M580 SLi Certified ATX2.2 PSU
my HD is a 250 Gb Western Digital WD2500KS
Your right about the RAM its DDR
I've got an OEM copy of VISTA 32 bit but I guess I will need a new one if I'm changing this many bits on my computer
I don't think AoC can make use of more than 2 core so will I benifit from a quad core? Or is it worth having a quad core just to future proof a bit more?

I would never buy a new system just to play a game that I dont know is going to be like. With the 9xxx around the corner I would wait until these arrive to try get the best out of DX10.

The beta ran well on my 7800GS+ and wasnt that hungry.
