Hi guys,

Anyone help? I have Linksys WRT54GS and I'm trying to view a stream which is using UDP. If I plug the internet connection directly to my laptop via RJ45, I can view the stream. If I use the router, the stream doesn't work. It's as if there is nothing there.

I have tried the DMZ, tried forwarding the port. Maybe something I'm missing?

Ta.

I tried port forwarding the port 1234 to my laptop, but it doesn't appear to work.

thanks for your help.
Mike

You shouldn't have to port forward, just opening the port outgoing should be fine. Try connecting to the stream and see if you get any logs for the stream....

OK, I cannot find an option to open a port (with this router) only the option to port forward. I will try streaming (with ethereal open) when connected directly, see if it suggests anything else needs opening.

I've had three, D-Link, Netgear and finally Linksys, can't say I've ever noticed it on those three  Have you any experience of a Linksys at all bud?

Nah. I tried a d-link once and that was horrible. The main problem seems to be that many routers have dodgy web interfaces, and options which make no sense. Then you get the dodgy manuals which seem to be translated from Japanese or something.

I assume it has a firewall and stuff on it? I assume that it allows you to configure it?

Aye, it has a firewall, which has been duly disabled. The only security options regarding ports are forwarding and triggering, then obivously uPNP

Nope. The only difference is that when connect directly, it works and when connected via the router it doesn't. I don't use a firewall on this computer (silly I know, but there are reasons) so it's not a firewall causing the problem as it can usually connect when plugged in directly.

Yes, NAT is enabled! It's not often I'm stumped by things like this, but oddly, I am. When I had the D-Link, it worked fine. The Netgear wouldn't... this doesn't yet, however, so far this router is rock solid.

So, is your gateway on your pc set to the router's internal LAN IP? I take it you can browse the net normally through the router?

Everything works through the router, apart from this UDP stream yeah. The laptop has an IP, gateway, DNS etc. Internet works, mail works, etc. just this damn stream. Maybe it's a sign, who knows :)

Cheers for your help buddy. Not a problem. I'll just not bother with watching TV, it can only be a good thing.
