UEFA Champions & Europa League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [15th - 17th February 2022]

Great result for Liverpool. Hard to see past them for another CL win and if it prevents City then I'll live with it! Klopp knows that this is the peak of this team and you can see by the signings of Diaz and Kounate that they've strengthened very astutely. A stark and depressing contrast to United's mismanagement. The only thing thats missing from Liverpool is a genuine academy player who looks like they are breaking through to be a regular. I know Trent is established but he's the only one right?

Jones could potentially make it in fairness but isn't a set starter like trent

Really feels like we're lucky in recent games that opposition are fairly bad at taking their chances.

Perhaps that is a sign of being 'good' but it looks absolutely diabolical compared to the control we had in games in 2020. (Granted that is maybe the most absurd team I've watched pre-covid)

Really, I don't think Liverpool look that likely to win the CL at all. No idea who will win it but I wouldn't put them as favourites.

Watched the City highlights as well and as much as people are fawning over the 5-0 win, Sporting were embarrassingly bad. Like championship level defending at times.

Champions league is flip a coin and always has been really. I understand the mythical side of it and why so many teams want to win it but Premier League is a far bigger test of a teams worth.

To seriously say Chelsea are the current best team in Europe is laughable.

You can basically put PSG, Real, Liverpool, City and Bayern. Whoever ends up turning up on the night will win.

Ai we don’t look close. I mean 18 points from 18 in the group of death. Going away twice to the san siro and then to Athletico Madrid and winning is poor form ;)

Never said that you were in poor form... Just don't think there is anything special about Liverpool this season to suggest they are going to win the CL. Its a complete guessing game on who will win the CL. I just don't think it will be Pool.

I’m only messing but I’m not sure there are many clubs in Europe who could make the subs we made yesterday. I think we will go close for sure.

City are doing their usually thing of looking formidable but then Pep will likely try something new in the latter stages and bottle it again.

What were these chances you speak of? Inter had practically nothing yesterday. One shot off the bar which was a far harder chance than it looks and they could have probably done better with a cross in the 2nd half but that's it. They had a 15 minute spell at the start of the 2nd half where we couldn't get hold of the ball and they had a few attacks but we defended them well and they resulted in nothing, not even a chance. Their entire xg was only fractionally better than Mane's headed chance alone.

The crazy offside rule made a lot of people think Burnley had a few chances but like Inter, they had little to nothing. All but the counter from what should have been a pen to us and a deflected clearance off VVD were flagged offside. Just to show he's the best Alisson saved all the offside shots but pushing high up the pitch, not allowing Burnley to launch balls into our box and to allow them to run offside was a tactic and it worked.

In fact since the Chelsea game at the start of January, the only time we've not looked in complete control defensively was the Palace game where we really did need Alisson.

Just watched the Bayern/Salzburg highlights and Salzburg could have won that game by 2-3 goals easily.
