UEFA Champions & Europa League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [8th - 10th March 2022]

Surely Mbappe should have been booked then, threw himself to the ground and was holding his hand up for the foul as he was falling to the ground. I absolutely detest PSG, hope they never win the Champions League.

PSG in being PSG shocker. I'm not sure they will ever win the CL.

Just lost to a team full of pensioners.

You can take the man outta spurs.... :D

Couldn't believe it when i saw the score, left at 60mins to grab some food cause i thought PSG had this wrapped up.

Now lets see how City knock themselves out.

the French bottlers do it again......but it happens so often, its not really a surprise

Not convinced RM will get much further either but hey ho

I really hope the Utd board take note of this game (and the fact that Poch really hasnt done anything of note while in Paris) - he is the Argentinian Moyes (and god save me for saying it), thats probably disrespectful to Moyes hahaha

Poch has always been overrated. When you look at that spurs squad in isolation. He should have won the league easily the year Leicester won it.

By that wisdom neither of them should have been near the title...

I think Poch is a good manager but I still have no real concrete idea how good. Spurs have basically got one trick up their sleeve. Kane and Son. When they are being supplied and are in form, they completely carry Spurs. I find it hard to argue that Spurs didn't play some lovely football under Poch and he overachieved with them IMO. The PSG job is just a poison chalice. Even worse than the United job. Stupid expectations, no time usually, a meddling board with motives outside of football and a bunch of overpaid players with an over inflated sense of their own genius.

Like others I think Poch is over rated however PSG failing in champions league has happened under every manager they have had so I don't think that's an entirely poch thing.

PSG Is a squad full of individual talent, however that doesn't mean you'll get the top prizes

When Poch was in Spurs peak you Alli who was going to be the next super star. Erikson was one of the top midfielders in Europe and the Belgium CB partnership was the best in the league at the time. (Belgium were also a top ranked side in the world at the time). Also do not forget Kyle walker and Trippier who are both top quality fullbacks and have had really successful careers since. Plus you had Kane/Son and Kane was golden boot winner for that year.

Looking back in hindsight he underachieved. Should have at least won something.

Man Utd need to be looking for the best or someone going in that direction (ETH) not a nearly there who couldn't even win the French league.

Oh they had a good team for sure but it wasn't as good or complete and didn't have anything like the depths of City etc.

There are very very very few 100% proven, reliable managers I would 100% back to do well wherever they go. Klopp is probably the only one realistically. The rest of them need either a fair amount of money to spend or have failed in some of their jobs. Pep has never gone to a team that wasn't either completely dominant in their league or very close to that. Tuchel failed at PSG. Ancellotti has failed at a few clubs. Mourinho has failed at a few clubs. ETH has never managed a big team in a big league.

I simply think that Poch isn't as bad a choice as people are making out. I think he might be the better pragmatic choice for United simply because someone like ETH won't be able to do what he wants under the current management.

Man City were not dominant when Spurs could have won the league. They finished 4th on goal difference that season and had won only two titles in the 8 years since the oil money had come in.

Man Cities dominance didn't start for another two years.

Also Klopp was largely unproven before he came to the Premier league. German league isn't at the same level yet he is now arguably the best manager in the world right now.

ETH had his team stripped to barebones after that semi final exit and has rebuilt it again. If he can get far in the champions League again he has to be in prime contention.

Just my opinion but for me at least Poch has had his chance and has bottled it many times and is at a level similar to Brendan Rodgers for example. ETH hasn't had the big job yet and I would rather take the risk than someone who is a "nearly there".

Klopp wasnt unproven at all, he transformed Dortmund, He had his Dortmund team picked apart on a regular basis by Bayern and still managed to challenge Bayern for the most part. He also did very well at Mainz considering it was his job and the position Mainz were at.

Agreed Klopp was a hot prospect, getting Mainz to the top flight was massive achievement, doesn't mean he could cut it at the highest level so then went to Dortmund and did well there. Back to back league titles (versus Bayern behemoth) followed by CL final. I think a lot of Arsenal fans would have wanted Klopp to come there. Back in 2015 Arsenal were just still about considered the same level as Liverpool.
