Gerrard so much better forward, easily has the legs for that role, daft to think he isn't good enough for first XI anymore

Who suggested he wasn't good enough?

Carroll came alive last season when Gerrard returned. While he's not the player he was when he and Torres were scaring the opposition witless, he's still capable of taking that team from average to good.

Before the game I'd have taken anything other than a thorough pounding on the scoreline, to go to Anfield, get a draw and score a goal while it wasn't just a consolation on say a 5-1 drubbing is fantastic. Well done Liverpool but there's no shame for Hearts in going out to a team that has massively more resources and only narrowly won on aggregate - sure, Liverpool should probably have won and by quite a few goals overall but on the scoreline it's pretty close. That late goal for Templeton must have caused more than a few Liverpool fans a moment of worry too.
