There has been some weird out of place commentary this year, weird over praising of refs making standard decisions and the other day there was a "contender for pass of the season" comment for what was an incredibly standard 40-50 yard diagonal pass from one wing to the other to someone in miles of space. It's like they've all been told to be ultra positive about everything.

Hernandez broke his collarbone early july, it's a four week recovery so while it should be healed I'm sure they are being careful with him. I presume he missed most of preseason and can't be match fit so not surprising he can't start. Basically on the bench in case of emergency.
Herrera, I get this feeling that he was out last year with a back injury and is still carrying an injury. A LOT of players carry ongoing problems and when you get someone like Herrera who is playing great but not a lot, well, I wouldn't be surprised if the back thing hasn't healed and so they are using him sparingly otherwise it's a very strange way to utilise a player who improves the team every time he comes on.
