UEFA Champions League/Europa League 14/15/16 February *** Spoilers ***

good result from a poor performance (especially at the back) - Romero didnt really have a save to make , although there were some very close calls

At the other end Pogba, Mata and Ibra missed some good chances (well as good as any of St Etienne's anyway) - for once wayward finishing didnt hurt Utd.

Ref was shockingly poor though - give Herrera the week off so he is fresh for the final in 10 days time, would also be tempted to rest everyone apart from Lingard , Rashford and Fellaini for the weekend of those that played tonight

Tonight was the kind of game where Utd really missed Carrick's reading of the game and pinpoint passing from base of midfield

Got to say I agree with many of the comments that have come out over the past day or so. Same old same old, start the season in promising fashion then lose a couple of games before being humiliated in the European knock out stages. Another spineless performance away from home in Europe meaning there's the the usual chase for a top four finish. The fans making the trips to north London in the snow and rain deserve better. The only thing I would say is I think the calls for the manager's head are a bit premature....

...Pocchetino is a good manager :)

To be honest it was a reasonably open match in the second half which lead to more chances for Etienne. Mourinho says that some players weren't focussed before the second half but honestly, the reason we were 10x better in the second half is because Fellaini was taken off. Suddenly we played football again an cut them to pieces for much of the second half. Before half time nothing went down the middle and we relied on Martial to beat half their team or Valencia to put in a decent cross. One of those things nearly happened a few times and you can guess which one it was.

We really missed Mkhitaryan and having Carrick would probably have mitigated that a bit but in the end it was reasonably comfortable.

If Mourinho is sensible he will stop trying to use Fellaini as anything other than a last role of the dice when we need something at the end of a game. He will also keep using Rashford as a super sub as he unbalances the team when he starts and his pace and directness is wasted against a fresh and organised team.
