UEFA Champions League/Europa League 5/6/7 March *** Spoilers ***

Oh good god, just beat Inter and he's maturing as a manager now...

Do these clowns not realise he's managed in another country and won a **** load already or does a manager only become successful once he's won a few games for an English club?

Townsend makes me want to punch myself in the face.

Has Bale now been banned from the culmination of yellow cards for diving in Europe and the Premier League? If so, that is fantastic.

Punching him in the face would make a lot more people happy.

It's hilarious, you just have to remember that football has only existed since 92, it's not about History (except if you're Manchester United or Liverpool) and to be a top football player / manager, you have to do it in England (usually against Stoke on a cold wet Tuesday night).

Not sure why no one clues onto that turn, he does it all the time and not even remotely quickly :p

Haha, yep, no matter where he is on the pitch he'll give it a go, I've seen milk turn faster on occasion.

At least it beats Assou-Ekotto's stupid turn that often gets him into trouble.

He does is slowly because of what his job is protecting the ball, he's not the fastest guy on earth and he's not looking to burst forwards, he's looking for the pass but looking to keep someone from the ball.

As for Bale, that was one of the worse dives I've seen him do, I have more than a little sympathy for players looking to protect themselves, particularly if someone has done a lunging tackle and they go down without contact to avoid the tackle, or if someone swings a leg then pulls it out of the way, but there was very little in this one. The hanging leg dive as its known, when there isn't contact and the player actually makes the effort to force the contact by moving their leg across... thats basically the worst kind of dive, and his absolute "I can't believe it" face afterwards just made it worse. Admit you dived, hold your hands up, say sorry, acting indignant that someone has had the gall to catch you cheating is really crappy.

Benitez has lost the plot: http://www1.skysports.com/football/...oss-Rafael-Benitez-frustrated-by-soft-penalty

Chelsea boss Rafael Benitez hit out at the penalty decision that provided the only goal of the game for Steaua Bucharest in a dour Europa League last 16 first leg.

Ryan Bertrand was adjudged to have hauled back Raul Rusescu, who converted the resulting spot-kick in the 34th minute.

"I think it was very soft. To give a penalty in this situation, and especially when you have so many referees in their positions, it is soft," Benitez said.

"You cannot change the situation but it is very soft. If you give the penalty, why not the red card? Strange."

Benitez insisted his side were the better team on the night, and he remains confident Chelsea have the ability to turn the tie around in the return leg at Stamford Bridge.

Well if he was last man which he can still be from a cross I don't really see how he is losing it as it would constitute a red card and it also may have been soft. (I haven't seen it though and could be horribly wrong :p, but Rafa didn't come out with rubbish like it was a red for Hart in a much bigger game last week)

I think Tottenham needed to score more to secure the next fixture and to go through, Inter should be better at home.

If Spurs score once in Italy, Inter will need five to go through. I can't see Spurs not scoring and Inter scoring five.

What's happened to Inter Milan though? They won the Champions League only a few seasons ago. Spurs never really needed to get out of 2nd gear tonight.

Mourinho short term thinking, throw loads of money at the wrong people who aren't the right types, Eto'o was looking for a final pay day so left, Lucio was on huge wages and was awesome but only had a couple seasons left. They sold the creative heart and sole of the team in Ibra(for awesome money), sold Balotelli. Bunch of managers, ultimately this is what I say about managers.

Most managers spend the first couple years with a heavy legacy of the team that came before. Mourinho added defensive strength to a good attacking Chelsea side, but after 3 years they were a boring defensive side that struggled offensively too often.

Inter were a good defence already with Ibra upfront, thats a recipe for success, bring in a defensive manager and you fluke a champs league win off defensive anti football, but ultimately both teams have struggled since as they became overly negative.

As yet I've not seen Mourinho do anything long term with a club, 2-3 years down the line from the previous managers and his teams struggle to break down defences, struggle to play well and start to seemingly suffer from several players attitudes going down the toilet. Real were awesome BEFORE he joined, he did worse the first year, largely because he tried to make them more defensive, with a crap defence, the second year he went full on offence, and won the title, the third year and they've fallen to pieces, looks set to be their worst finish in quite a few seasons this year, turmoil in the dressing room.

They may have beaten Barca but they had 28% possession. How much possession did Inter have in their champs league games on the way to the title.

That kind of football can't lost long, Real have lost a string of embarrassing games they would never usually lose.

I think the very specific way in which he motivates players, and resorts to anti football in big games can work short term, but the longer they do it the more players run out of ideas, the more opposition work them out, and the more his tactics seem destined to fail.

So what happened to Inter, Mourinho, what happened to Real's poop season, Mourinho.

There is a reason almost no other manager resorts purely to negative/anti football, because long term it fails, outside of Mourinho the only other manager I can think tries the same tactics so often, is Stoke. Building a Stoke like defence into an already great offensive team can work well, but after a few years, the team falls apart and is just Stoke....

inter aren't what they used to be but spurs put in a great team effort, never gave inter a chance to get any sort of play going.

parker played extremely well and even got forward quite a few times. i doubt we will park the bus on the away leg, we should be looking to score.

no news on lennon, hope he's available against liverpool. our bench is looking a bit poor when it comes to pace.

There are no guarantees in football, well other then Bale getting a yellow card for diving :p.

I think had Tottenham gotten another goal tonight it would have properly killed off the tie, it gives them the change to rotate against Inter in the return leg a bit more.

I agree with what you say though, Tottenham just have to score away from home and the tie is finished, which isn't beyond them, but just don't take it for granted or get complacent.

Inter, like a fair few, clubs just have cash flow problems. Their problem is the cash is mainly flowing out. They've had to reduce the squad in terms of numbers and quality and it shows.

I didn't think there was a red card for the 'last man' it's something the media have come up with, I thought it was a red card for denying a goal scoring opportunity, so for example a keeper bringing a player down as he's about to shoot or basically see that Arsenal player that rugby tackled someone.

Jesus Christ Chelsea were awful last night, I thought we'd already served up the worst performances possible against Brentford, Newcastle, QPR, Swansea, Reading, Man. C. & Southampton etc but we really dug deep for another last night, utter ****ers.

This man earns £175k a week as a professional footballer, or more pertinently some mug pays him that.
There's hope for anyone with 2 legs or less then -
