Weird game last night. Not having any away supporters meant the atmosphere was a bit flat and the performance was a bit too. If you just watched the highlights you'd think we played really well but, from an attacking point of view at least, we played in bursts - in those bursts we cut through them with ease though. I'm sure he's going to frustrate the life out of me at some point this season but Shaqiri is looking like a bargain. All the concerns people had about his attitude & workrate have amounted to nothing and he's even not even taking crazy 40 yard shots like I was fully expecting him to do - he doesn't look out of place at all in a Klopp side in terms of energy & effort and he seems to be enjoying playing as the support guy to our front 3, creating for them rather than being the main man he was at Stoke. Fabinho took 15 mins or so to settle into the game but after that he really impressed, winning everything in the middle of the park and also looking to start attacks from deep. I still think it's going to take a little time for him to adjust to the pace of the PL though and could be a while before he's playing week in week out. He didn't have a great deal to do yesterday but everything he did have to do Joe Gomez done with class. In the few games he played in his first season with us (playing at LB), you could see he was special and had to keep reminding yourself that he was only 18. The best part of 2 seasons missed through injury made you wonder whether he'd ever fulfill the potential he first showed - even when he started to get back into the side last season you doubted whether he'd move into central defence or whether he'd just end up being a steady defensive fullback. His performances individually and his partnership with VVD this season has been outstanding - he's so calm & composed both in his defending and on the ball, he reads the game well and has blistering pace. The way things are going it won't be long before he's a £75m CB too.
