UEFA Champions League/Europa League ** Spoilers ** [26/27/28 September 2017]

Well that was about as one sided a match as you will see in a champions league game. Score line shows that..... :(

Ref is a clown, added on time doesn't start until 92 minutes because of an injury and blows the whistle 30 seconds past the 8 minutes added on, absolutely boils my **** that does.

Why would another 10 + minutes have made a difference given how wasteful you were, let alone another 2 minutes or so

edit sounds like City were a little fortunate not to get a pen against them at 1-0 for Stones hand ball

'You'? I'm not a Liverpool fan, far from it in fact, I just find it incredibly irritating.

Why can't they just stop the clock as in rugby or is that too much of a change for football?

That's exactly what the ref should have done.

I'm not sure what's more concerning, our defence or the amount of chances we're wasting? Given the amount of chances we've created against City, Sevilla, Burnley, Leicester x2 and then today, we should have scored 3 times as many goals as we have.
lol, Sturridge.

Have to say, very impressive time wasting in this game from Spartak.
That has to be up there with some of the worst time wasting I've ever seen. How there sub keeper got away with taking a full minute to come on the pitch after having 7(?) minutes to get ready while they took their number 1 off was remarkable.

The guys up front are probably feeling the pressure and snapping at their shots because they know they must score 3 every match because the defence is so god awful that it will gift away 2 goals

I particularly enjoyed the thrown in taking, especially the right back, every time it went out he would walk as far back as he possibly could feigning a long throw then stutter 25 times as he ran to take it and throw it 5 yards. It was literally a minute per throw in, ridiculous and highly irritating. You don't need to be a fan of the opposing team to find that irritating.

I heard a stat on the radio on the way into work this morning. I think it was that Liverpool have created 200+ chances this season and conceded only 49 yet scored 7 and conceded 12. Would a proper striker not be an option? Why does Sturridge never start?

The goals scored and conceded figures aren't quite right but I can imagine the chances created and conceded stats aren't far wrong. It's a consequence of how we play - it's a high risk, high reward style which is why we'll have spells where we concede loads but equally we'll have spells where we keep a lot of clean sheets in a row because we don't allow many shots on goal.

Klopp's doesn't look at our defence as a holding midfielder and back 4. He wants us to defend as a team and to defend high up the pitch - this isn't purely to aid our attacking play but quite simply, if you win the ball back 40 yards from their goal it's better than defending 40 yards from your own goal. To do that it involves our fullbacks and midfield squeezing up the pitch and that creates issues if they don't do their pressing/defensive jobs properly or at the right times. When we defend properly we don't allow teams many attempts on goal - there was a stat midway through last season that we had conceded the fewest attempts on goal than any side in Europe's major leagues. The problem is that when we're not quite at it, we're totally exposed and even if we're only conceding a few chances, they're always great chances.

As for Sturridge. The reason why we're so creative is because of the fluid front 3/4 we have. Sturridge would improve our conversion rate but we probably wouldn't create as many. The goalscoring issues shouldn't really be a major problem - we've not scored the goals we should have in recent weeks but over the season we'll score bucket loads, I'm sure.

Few changes tonight, mostly enforced by injury.

Thats a good team in my eyes. Only trouble we might have is that we are a bit heavy on defence. I assume we will play on the counter. Great to see Martial getting a start as well as Herrera.
