They spend years trying to get back in to the Champs league, now it's here they bottle it and think of the league as more important. I don't care what the situation, you don't get any bigger games in a season than away to Real Madrid, field your best team and give it a shot.

I can understand why Rodgers is resting players. Realistically, Liverpool will still probably qualify for the last 16, and it's no good going far in this year's CL if they don't get back into it next year. He's got to prioritise this weekend's game against Chelsea. On the other hand, he's taking a big gamble tonight by picking that team that Liverpool won't get such a hammering that it will really affect the whole team's confidence. I think that's a genuine danger.

Also, it puts a hell of a lot of pressure on them for the last two games, it means they are both basically must-win games.
 
We should field our full strength team but flip side lallana and borini deserve a chance and as I said gerrard etc needed resting long before this match, long as we put in a proud performance I can't expect much more
 
Bit of a kick in the teeth for all the away supporters who have travelled to Madrid to see their team play the best team in the world only to have their manager basically throw the towel in even before kick off.

This would have looked a dream tie to go to for them when the draw was made. Can see why he's done it, but difficult to agree with it.
 
I don't get this, as a team and as a player, this is what you play for. This is what last season's hard work was for, to get into the Champions' League. Now you are in it, you can't be bothered? Surely you fight for every single point, no matter how small the odds. Not putting out a B-side and lower your own chances of success.

The fact he just said 'were not forfeiting this game' without that question being posed to him shows he knows what he's doing.
