UEFA CL/EL/ECL & Carabao Cup Football Thread ** spoilers ** [1st - 3rd October 2024]

Erik ten Hag tells TNT Sports that Marcus Rashford is not injured and he was replaced at half-time because "we have to rotate".

He said "we want fresh players on the pitch" for Aston Villa on Sunday.

What??! There surely must be something more to that, it makes no sense. Your jobs on the line, you've given up a 2 goal lead and you take off the only threat on the pitch worrying about a game in 3 days time? The man's lost his mind.

He's not lost his mind, he's just **** lol

The full quote is even worse:
Ten Hag when asked why he decided to sub Rashford: “He was ok, no issues but we just need to rotate”.“

Also Alejandro Garnacho is our attacking threat in this moment and we brought him from the bench”.

“We need fresh players for Sunday. And it's all in the plan”.

Well that's my bad, I forgot all about following the plan. I'll bounce back for Sunday

dunno what you lot are on about, that was a courageous never give up performance, drawing with 2nd best team in Portugal this season despite going a man down. Resilience personified.
Easy to laugh from the sides.

United don't have a great record against Porto https://portugoal.net/classics-topm...hester-united-a-european-rivalry-for-the-ages can't find the BBC link but they mentioned it also. Beating them was not a given, even if ETH wasn't in charge.

Not that this means it was a good/acceptable performance, obviously!

Well they haven't beaten an English side in Europe for 20 years (ironically their last win was against you, arf), Portuguese sides in general are pretty poor. That article is funny though, 3 ties over a 30 year period is hardly a 'rivalry for the ages'

It's a Portuguese site trying to hype things up, do I really need to state the obvious? My point is that it was never going to be an easy match based on our history with them, and especially given the current state of the club.

Just coming back to the Champions League new format, I am a bit torn over it. It does seem to have taken the shine off the big fixtures, and the initial games seem to lack jeopardy, but it is more of a league now, as the name implies...

I think we'll get used to it, and it will mean more high profile big club fixtures.
