Hopefully Carroll Wellbeck is seen as the next England forward partnership as Rooney has been pants

I'm of the opinion that Rooney would be best deployed in the gap between midfield and the strikers.

He doesnt have the height to win a long ball, or the pace to get in behind, and in games like this where half the Italian team is on him dropping back into the gap is the only way hes going to get any space.
