UEFA Euro 2012 - Semi-finals - ** spoilers **

I don't think Germany underestimated them, just too many players didn't turn up. Gomez and Podloski were terrible, Kroos wasn't great, Khedira wasn't great.

I think the only Germans that came out of that well were Reus, Schweinsteiger and Neuer.

I wouldnt be surprised if they did win it on Sunday...they are definitely the dark horses of the tournament this year. Solid defence shown by the Italians, if they defend like that on Sun then life for Spain will get very difficult.

People will only be surprised if they haven't watched Italy this tournament, this wasn't an especially surprising result.

Italy aren't a team that hang on and defend for their lives ala Chelsea style, they have a great flow going forward too and I think can definitely get the better of Spain.

Germany, bad management basically, Podolski has looked poor all tournament, but I don't know how much of that is down to who he has played with. Podolski/Klose/Muller worked insanely well last time, because Klose's movement is fantastic, reading the game, passing and interplay with Podolski and Muller, and that is what both of those players need to shine. Gomez is just gash, inside the 6 yard box, not bad, every other part of his game is gash, he can't bring Podolski or Muller into the game.

Kroos, I've simply never seen him have a good game, he's nothing short of rubbish. No idea how he's in the team let alone starting, likewise Ozil, looks good on the ball but ultimately didn't create the chances required and his finished all tournament has been abysmal, every shot he's had has been a pass at the keeper.

The team just weren't good, Boateng is ****, Hummel's had a terrible game, truly terrible, there was zero threat from Cassano till he completetly stupidly moved around him to get to the ball, he was between Cassano and the goal, and moved out of the way. Was no where to be seen for the second goal or most of the game.

Had they started most of the competition with Podolski/Klose/Muller they'd likely have done much better in this game. I'd also have swapped the useless Kroos for Muller at halftime and left Podolski on, he was poor but wasn't involved much either and we know he's good. Kroos is simply not good enough, ever.

Just as I was beginning to wonder why I was still watching the Euros there's a match like that. Italy could/should have won by more and it wouldn't have been even slightly unfair on the Germans. Pirlo was great again and Balotelli played fantastically, if Di Natale could keep on his feet/not get caught offside every couple of minutes he should have added another goal or two as well.

I did feel that it would have been nice to let Klose take the penalty and if he'd scored then he'd equal Muller's record in tournaments which would have been a fitting send off. Still can't quite believe that Germany didn't just punt it forward from the freekick in the dying seconds of the match - at that stage there's no point in trying to pass it forwards.

Well perhaps a bit harsh on them considering they had more shots, more shots on target and more of the ball :p

Was really disappointed with Germany. Didn't rate Badstuber before the game but defensively they were all pretty bad, even Lahm

But were poor across the pitch and Italy were by far the better team.

by far? Not sure about that. Baoltelli took two chances very well. If Germany had taken a few of their chances it could have easily gone the other way. I thought it was a pretty even game and the stats seem to suggest that as well.

If we play the 'If' game, then 'if' Italy had tucked away a few chances they messed up royally it could've been 4 or 5.

On the whole, Italy were far better and in control of the game.

So they were in control because Germany missed quite a few great chances?

Let's say Germany scored 3 of those chances and won 3-2 would Italy still have been far better and in control? Germany did what Italy did against England, they attacked fairly relentlessly but just lacked the killer touch, that doesn't mean Italy were in control or far better.

But then if we play the whole entire thing of 'if so and so scored such and such a chance then they would have one x-x' then we can say that Italy could have scored more too ie. the Di Natale one on one etc.

It's just a silly debate and totally pointless, really.

Germany had 6 more shots than Italy but only 3 more on target, it's not exactly miles apart and Italy played the better standard of footballer, so yes, they were the better team by quite a distance.

I think you may be alone in your battle for Germany just being 'wasteful' and not poor overall, really...

But by what measure are you saying they were better by quite a distance?

It was a very even game but you seem to think it was completely one sided :/
