UEFA Europa League Final [Atletico Madrid v Fulham] Wed 12th May 2010 **spoilers**

How very strange. I'm actually slightly more dejected now than when we got spanked by Barca. Weird this football lark..

Awww so the old enemy gets to the play off finals.

If cardiff go up there fans will cause trouble trust me

And after the match Blackpool's not a particularly trouble free night out either.

Great.

Unlucky to Fulham but it's been a hell of a run for them, I didn't manage to watch all the match but from what I saw Athletico looked marginally the better team, not all that much in it though.

Unlucky Fulham but they did amazingly well to get this far. Well done to them, they have achieved something to be proud of. :)

I thought the teams were largely even and Athletico needed more than a bit of luck for both their goals (that doesn't mean they didn't deserve them though). Something to build on for next year, and that will hopefully translate into a higher ranking up the table.

Credit to Fulham. Getting to the final alone is a fantastic achievement for them. I thought they battled well against a very talented team tonight but it just wasn't meant to be.

havent fulham been resting their first 11 though? so that isnt really an excuse

It isn't an excuse? Just go and have a look at how many games each of the starting players for Fulham have played this season.

Very, very unlucky Fulham. Feel sorry for the whole club. Better luck next year. :)

Not long home, gutted the way it was lost, but was an amazing experience nonetheless.

Day didn't start off brilliantly, plane was delayed 45 minutes then we circled Hamburg for a further 30-40 minutes (don't forget it's only a 1hr10 or so minute flight), and went to the coach transfer to the stadium which ended up taking just over 90 minutes. We were meant to have about 6 1/2 hours free time before KO, but ended up ~2 hours.

The stadium is very nice, and the atmosphere was awesome.

REALLY gutted about how we lost it, although you could see how tired they were after the first half, it was just absolutely shattering to see them score that late. Zamora going off was definitely what changed the game. Shame Nevland's last game didn't end on a high note.

And getting back was even worse, EVERYONE turned up at the airport at about the same time (including Atletico), and had to wait to get through security, then to be told (for Fulham) that we'd just be put on a plane and go first come first served, however....zero planes left in that time, and we were waiting from about midnight GMT to about 6am when we got the flight back. Tired is not the word.

Awesome experience overall, though.

There was me thinking the trip back from the millenium stadium after the Arsenal vs Chelsea charity shield was long :p

Unlucky to Fulham, I think at that point, for maybe the first time ever I thought the game deserved to go to penalties and would have been a good way to finish.

Forlan though, either amazing stamina or he just doesn't try for most of the game and turns it on in the last 5 minutes, seems to keep getting late hugely important goals.

I have to say I thought overall both teams were very poor in the 2nd half, Zamara was a big loss and wasn't fully fit in the 1st either. Athletico played ok in the first and fairly poorly in the second, they were playing as individuals, someone gets it , runs it up the pitch 30 years, followed by a truly terrible pass that gets no where near a team mate, and that was the majority of the second half and extra time.

I don't think Fulham were much better, but tiredness is probably mostly to blame, Fulham just didn't have the energy for a big comeback and huge 2nd half like they've had all season.

Resting players is one thing, they've played was it 67 games this season? A normal premiership team that screws up very badly in the cups will only play 40-42 games a year, if they go a few rounds in both cups, then you're at 46-48 games, 20 more is HUGE.

Unlucky Syke :(

Really wanted Fulham to win that! When it go in to extra time I thought you could just sneak it!

Gutted that Fulham didnt win it....thought they might have sneaked a goal in ET but wasnt meant to be:(

Still a massive congrats to Fulham for far exceeding everyones opinion of them and getting to the final. Roy Hodgson is one hell of a manager i have to say and a very likeable chap...maybe the next england manager???
