I think the fundamental issue that England have and have had for donkeys years is that we have no national identity football wise.

When Germany turn up they know how they will play. They have played that way through their youth system and most of their players are at sides that play a vaguely similar style.

Our players are picked on their merits and might come from a counter attacking side, a pressing side, a possession side, one that plays a high line, another than sits deep etc. Its just a mish mash of players who are good but have very little cohesion.

Its the reason United have struggled with quite a few of their signings over the past decade. We sign completely the wrong player for the style the team plays.
 
To say Bellingham has had a stinker is ridiculous. I've lost count the amount of times he's won the ball back in their half. England's best player tonight.

That's a pretty good point. Out of all the styles though, I can never seem to understand what identity or style Southgate is trying to play, it's feels like we have 3-4 meaningful attacks in 90 minutes, that's appauling for the calibre of players in the squad.
 
Bellingham has been decent tonight, was poor against Hungary though

Saka and Sterling both absolutely dog **** tonight

Tbf I am probably 5 minutes behind on my stream and since I wrote that he's made me look like I'm watching a different game. He's been head and shoulders above the rest since.
