I'm messing around with a HP6200pro. I can wipe and install the original OS, W7/32bit with the recovery discs I made. But I cannot install any other OS. I was trying the Windows 8 evaluation 64bit but it fails with can't access boot etc. I assume this is due to the UEFI bios. I can acess the bios but I don't know what I should be looking for here.

I wanted to install a 64bit OS because I put 8GB of ram in the machine.

most of the brand PC's have a secure bios set, much like UEFI has a memory set profile for setting ram clock speeds for XMP and overclocking. In the secure Bios setting it will be set to your Windows 7 32bit OS and carry its serial number in the secure zone. you have to disable the secure zone to sometimes reinstall a new or upgraded Operating system. This can be done in the bios itself but I advise you to make a backup of your bios settings which can be obtained from HP in your case. There are several hacks but it is ill advised if you are new to this form of OEM handling.

Thanks. I'll check that out. I did see options for backing and restoring the OS. Nothing about a secure zone. I'll have another look. I don't think I could be bothered hacking it.
