UFC 105 - Couture v Vera **SPOILERS**

Thought the early fights on the card were very good.

Pearson was awesome, looked like Riley shouldnt even be in there with him, and put on an absolute clinic to finish him.

Matt Brown continues to grow in my estimations - did very well against a dangerous Wilks and probably should have tapped when that kimura was in deep - but he didnt, he toughed it out and rounded off with an impressive win. You can always count on Matt Brown to turn up and fight, win or lose.

Andre Winner can hit, although the two before the ref stepped in were probably not needed as the other guy was gone.

There was no way I could see Bisping getting past Kang, but on the flip side that just didnt seem like the same Kang from PRIDE. Taking nothing away from Bisping, showed great defense on the ground in the first, and then attacked relentlessly in the second. Best performance on his career - bring on Wanderlei!

Hardy looks better and better, Swick is the real deal, and for him to go in there, rock him several times, and almost finish on a number of occasions, that is impressive. Barring a freak act of god, hes still going to be torn into little pieces by GSP, but well done to him.

I thought Vera beat Randy, Randy controlled the fight, but did nothing other than tire Vera out. Even though Vera was shattered at the end of the 3rd, he was still the more dangerous, but thats the problem with the unified rules. Hope Vera doesnt get dropped for this - his last few fights havent been great TV, he has all the tools to be a great fighter but cant seem to find the performances recently.

quite a jump in class of fighter from hardy/swick to gsp dont you think?

I remember what people said about gsp vs serra the first time :)

Also not sure why hardy went for the clinch when he had swick hurt but good performance anyway shame he didnt get the ko

a pretty good assesment which I agree with
only slight difference was that I thought the Randy V Vera fight was pretty poor with all the holding on etc and IMHO I also thought Vera was the winner

my 2p

Just finished watching this card. Well done to the brits, Esp Pearson who looked incredible.

Shame for wilks but that knee early on was decisive.

How did couture win lol!!, clear win for Vera for me

It was a boring fight and Vera did score some good shots but Couture was able to control and impose his will for the majority of the fight hence the win. Was dull though.

Another good live event in Manchester, as with UFC70 the atmosphere was awesome!

Great to see the Brit guy doing well against some very tough opponents, naturally was good to see Bisping get back on track after his last fight.

Good mixture of KOs, decisions and TKOS which all in all resulted in a very good event.

Got to meet the Natural as well at his book signing, which was awesome :)

What were the undercard fights like mate? From what I hear Silver hit an awesome KO, but I havent been able to grab highlights of it anywhere.

Got to give Bisping his dues - that was a very very impressive offensive and defensive performance but Kang was very poor. Props to Bisping for coming back and showing some good skills and heart after what could have been a downhill slide. Will be interesting to see where he goes next with opponents but i guess Henderson II will not be to far away!!

Hardy looked very good and appears to have a decent chin but GSP should still take him out fairly comfortably. Impressive performance. He has been very very lucky to be in the right place at the right time to get a title shot already against GSP but all the same, how many other welterweights have won 4 in a row in the UFC/4 fight win streak?

Pearson was outstanding in his, dominated from start to finish. excellent stuff.

Shocking judging for the Vera fight - i was genuinely expecting them to say at least 29-28 if not 30-27 for Vera and was amazed that Randy got the nod. Can't honestly say he landed a single punch on Vera nor managed any take downs or anything!! Dreadful stuff.

Nice KO from Winner!! Ref was a bit slow to get across the ring to call a halt mind u!!

Wilks was poor and Brown was impressive - doubt he'll ever be in the title frame but his ability and skills are very very good.

Sweet Ko from Gustafsson as well!!!

Overall very good UFC105 bring on "The Bad Boy's Return" next week - always good for a quote or two!!

Also loved Coutures coach in between one of the rounds saying

" You need to change it up, fake for the take down then hit him as hard as you can so that his mother hurts!!!"

I dont think verra was robbed that badly you can easily see why the judges gave it to randy unlike the shogun robbery

People need to realise, damage is not part of the scoring system.

1st round vera started with a flurry, then Randy controlled the rest of the round holding him against the cage and dirty boxing. Round to Randy.

2nd round vera did better this round, dropped him with the body kick. Then didn't really do anything with it. The rest of the round was mostly against the cage again. Vera just.

3rd Randy held him against the cage again most the round, Vera got a takedown and mount at the end but didn't do anything with it and Randy was up after 10 seconds, flurry at end. Round to Randy.

He controlled the fight, took away the striking for the most part and grinded out a win, very boring win mind you.

I think it's about time for him to retire, he won't be able to hang with the top LHW's or the top HW's he is really starting to slow down. I wish he could fight forever though Randy is a legend and my favourite fighter.

Im sorry but shogun deserved not to take the title,as said before you have to beat the champion ,and in most views he did not beat him at most it was even .

As for Randy the first i thought Vera had it thru better striking in the first ,the other two randy used the octogon better and basiclly just held him up against the cage [controlling the opponent] but i agree Randy is just too old and slow now [im a huge fan] and like Chuck liddle just too easy to hit now ,i wish both would retire .

What? How on earth can you say Shogun didn't deserve the title...

And as for saying Randy is too old and slow, how did he get the W then? Oh and Chuck has retired..

I enjoyed this event, some real good fights. Bisping did very well offessively as well as defensively on the ground, but he is definately susceptible to good boxers!
Couture did enough for the win, Vera needed to do more when up against the cage. That was Coture's game plan and it worked perfectly.
Not sure how Hardy will fair against GSP. I hope he does well but I just can't see him getting anywhere really.

In my opinion shogun did not do enough ,he did a lot of great leg kicks and joe rogan seemed to have a thing for him but on the end of every leg kick was a straight right to the face [watch it again and look out for them] these did some good damage to the thigh but in no way did he defeat machida .

Randy got the win because he rightly pinned the truth up against the fence with dirty boxing and stopped him doing anything [possibly superior body strength]but when they came out of the clinch he looked in trouble with the striking ,the man is a legend but i feel by dragging himself on like this it takes some of the shine from what he has achieved .

I agree bisping will always have trouble against decent boxer/strikers
seems to leave his hands low when stepping in ,as for hardy he has a lot of power but Gsp is a different league.

Quite an enjoyable event i thought, Pearson looked very good, lcompletely different to TUF and had a very rounded attack. Wilks was just outclassed, im not sure he'd have done much even without that knee to the head. Hardy was very good but should have finished Swick, had him rocked quite a few times. GSP is a step too far for him i think though. Was pleased with Bisping, thought he was out after that knockdown but showed excellent defence on his back and battered him a treat in the second round. Main event was very dull but i thought Randy had just edged it.

Really good undercard fights. Winners KO was awesome, as was Sivers (Spinning back kick!) - although that was a TKO as he finished via GnP.

It was a great card all the way.

thing is... on my ticket ot said, first fight 5:45pm... i got there at 5:45 and 2 fights had already finished... and those were the 2 kos!?!!!!

and they didnt replay them, despite large intermissions...

rubbish!
