UFC 105 - Couture v Vera **SPOILERS**

People need to realise, damage is not part of the scoring system.

1st round vera started with a flurry, then Randy controlled the rest of the round holding him against the cage and dirty boxing. Round to Randy.

2nd round vera did better this round, dropped him with the body kick. Then didn't really do anything with it. The rest of the round was mostly against the cage again. Vera just.

3rd Randy held him against the cage again most the round, Vera got a takedown and mount at the end but didn't do anything with it and Randy was up after 10 seconds, flurry at end. Round to Randy.

He controlled the fight, took away the striking for the most part and grinded out a win, very boring win mind you.

I think it's about time for him to retire, he won't be able to hang with the top LHW's or the top HW's he is really starting to slow down. I wish he could fight forever though Randy is a legend and my favourite fighter.

This is the problem with scoring in MMA though. Randy controlled the fight, there is no doubt about it, the fight was fought where he wanted for the majority of the fight. However, he was rocked and badly hurt in the second, even dropping to the floor - in boxing thats a 10-8 round, in MMA, short of murder, you're not going to get a 10-8 round.

Also, for all Randys control in the 3rd, Vera got to the mount, which is a much more dominant position than Randy cuddling him against the cage. I dont knock Randy for what he did - that was his game plan - he was never going to win an open striking battle with Vera - I just wish the scoring could be a bit more like PRIDE.

The scoring system might reward "octagon control" and controlling the pace of the fight but it certainly doesnt reward the fighters for trying to put on a show!!!!

Any fighter who saw Randy grind out the result (and Machida to a certain degree) is going to get the impression that you are better just lying on your opponent to get the W rather than actually trying to inflict some damage!
I mean I like Randy, he's just simply superman - and I dont like Vera (just something about him!) but I would have given the result to Vera!

Its like the Roy Nelson vs Kimbo fight on TUF - who would you rather see fight in the octagon all things being equal!?!?

Maybe one day they will correct it (or at least even it up a bit!)

Bit like GS "The Blanket" P has been doing for a while now?

You're kidding right?

Look at GSPs record for decisions Vs finishes then come back to me.

Jake Shields is the definition of Lay and Pray, as is Gray Maynard. Taking someone down, controlling then destroying them is far from Lay and Pray.

GSP is far from lay and pray. An even the people who are lay and pray, if the opponent can't get up and do something about it, then it's their issue.

Everyone fights differently some fight safe, this won't ever change. People need to train wrestling and getting back to their feet.

Really? Of JS's last 10 fights only 2 have gone the distance (although his one against JM was quite bad)

GM: i agree.

KP: 8 of his last 10 wins have gone to the judges

That's actually quite surprising on Jake Shields, I seem to remember him being a serious Lay n Prayer. Ala the Miller fight, which was awful!
