UFC 112: Invincible

I really don't understand what is going on in Silva's head. It's as if he wants to take down the "system", as if he wants to take down UFC. I heard a while back he wanted to go into boxing not sure if that's the case now but it seems he's had enough of UFC.

The problem is that Silva is just too good really, there isn't anyone in that weight division that can touch him and he knows that.

The problem is there are too many fighters that go into his fights with that in mind and allow him to do that.

Silva vs GSP should be a great fight, I doubt GSP would stand there and watch someone act like an absolute arse.

I don't see him fighting Brock... He could probably submit Lesnar, but if he takes a couple of those big hams that Lesnar calls fists to the face it could be all over.

I really don't know what I would do - I'd hate to be in Dana's shoes ;)

I've been over at Sherdog, and reading all the Anderson Silva nuthugging posts is driving me up the wall. He is good, he is very good, he is absolutely awesome, however that cant be used to justify what he did last night. It was disrespectful to Maia, it was disrespectful the UFC, and most of all it was a two fingered salute to the fans that ultimately pay his wages. If Dana could find a way to fine him his whole purse for that fight I'm sure that he would do it, and it would be deserved.

I watched the fight again today, although a lot of it was in fast forward, and it made me sick. This is the P4P best in the support? This is what such a great sport is being represented by? I dont want him to fight GSP, like Dana said after a performance like that he hasnt earned a fight with GSP. Why should he get to line his pockets with a superfight against GSP?

I'd like to see Dana force him to go up to heavyweight - Anderson himself has talked about it enough times - then give him a wrestling stud like Brock, Carwin or Velasquez and watch them outweight and bully him about for 3 rounds, hopefully smash some humility into him.

What annoys me most about it all, is that he didnt even feel like he needed to offer the fans an apology. Still utterly disgusted by it.

I'm a massive UFC fan and admire Anderson Silva's skill but that match up was a joke from the start, I can't believe they fed Anderson a guy whom just two fights ago was knocked out in just 16 seconds. Maia's stand up is awful and his wrestling isn't strong enough to take Silva down, in short Maia didn't deserve to be in the octagon with Silva to begin with. This doesn't excuse Anderson's ridiculous clowning around, I actually felt embarrassed to be watching the fight but I saw this coming after witnessing the Thales Leites fight at UFC 97.

The only time Anderson performs is when he feels challenged or threatened hence his fantastic performances in the light heavyweight division. The power and size of bigger opponents forces him to fight properly cos he doesn't dare risk being hit by anyone with a bit of power.

GSP is a poor matchup for Anderson, Silva is far too big and has too great a reach for GSP even with both fighters at 170. GSP wouldn't stand with Dan Hardy so he isn't going to stand with Silva and I don't think GSP will be able to get close enough to take Silva down. Again we might have a repeat performance of last night.

A fight with Brock could go either way, Anderson dances round & knocks Brock out or wears him down making a mockery of the weight divisions or Brock does what he did to Mir in their last outing. It'd be like the old days of the UFC, more of a freakshow fight, it's not what the sport needs.

A good matchup for Silva at this point would be the loser of Machida and Shogun, the time frame for recovery and training would fit well and I doubt Anderson would spend much time clowning around in front of either of them. Just a shame Silva has already dismissed fighting Machida.

Imagine you're Dana White - you've booked Belfort vs Silva - its fast approaching, its going to be a barnstormer. Both are stand up fighters, Belfort has easily the most dangerous hands in the division, vs the most accruate striker of the division. Belfort gets injured, damn it. Sonnen is still mending from the fight with Nate (due to that slicing elbow that opened him up) - who do you put Silva in there with? I cant think of anybody available that would have been a more game competitor than Maia was.

This whole 'Anderson needs to feel challenged' thing is BS, its his job. If I turned up to work and started clowning around because I didnt feel 'challenged' I'd find myself down the job centre pretty quickly.

I'm pretty sure GSP could take Anderson down, I'm pretty sure GSP could take anybody down, but I dont see it being a very good fight. And like I've said in previous posts, Anderson now needs to earn a shot at GSP.

As for Brock, Carwin or Cain, I'd agree they are more freak show style fights - its not something that I would usually be in favour of, but I feel that Anderson could do with a bit of an old school beat down. I'd like to see Silva vs the loser of Machida / Shogun - but again thats pretty much a super fight that I dont feel Anderson has earned with his performances of late. Also, we all know that Anderson wont take on Machida, or even Little Nog, as he trains with the both of them.

Perhaps Anderson vs JDS is an option. JDS has very solid boxing, isnt anywhere near as huge as guys like Carwin / Brock, and could be a pretty solid test for him?

He was meant to be fighting Vitor Belfort, but he had to pull out due to an injury, then he was supposed to be fighting Chael Sonnen who had just come off a great victory man handling Nate Marquardt, unfortunately Chael didn't have enough time to heal as he got a couple nasty cuts from Marquardt in their fight.

A good matchup for Silva at this point would be the loser of Machida and Shogun, the time frame for recovery and training would fit well and I doubt Anderson would spend much time clowning around in front of either of them. Just a shame Silva has already dismissed fighting Machida.

He and Machida are training partners and friends, they will refuse to fight, I would love to see him fight Rua though!

EDIT: He won't fight JDS after as he is another training partner/friend at BlackHouse.

I understand that Maia was brought in as a replacement but seriously he really was never going to be up to the task. There was nobody available in the UFCs middleweight division, maybe Dana shouldn't have let Henderson go to Strikeforce but that's a discussion for another time. ;)

On another note I would be very interested in seeing Sonnen fight Silva in the future. I'm not a fan of pure wrestlers but Chael mauled Marquardt.

On Silva possibly fighting Machida, I'm getting a little tired of training partners/friends refusing to fight each other, they're supposed to be professional fighters. They should put their personal feelings to one side and do their jobs.

A lot of fans are suggesting throwing Rampage in with Silva but although he has the power to knock Silva's head off, I've noticed Rampage is becoming a little flat footed and lacking good head movement in his last few fights.

Unless you put Silva in with a come-forward striker who he can counter punch hes not going to engage; for examples see Leben, Griffin, Irvin, etc. If you give him someone who is more technical than brawler, ala Leites, Maia, Cote who doesnt walk straight forward, then Silva just doesnt know what to do to be honest.

He needs a rocket up his arse from Dana White who needs to explain its not just about getting the W, its about putting on a show too. I loved his comment about "well maybe Silva next fight will be on the undercard to teach him a lesson" :)

Its been a dreadful few months for UFC - The GSP fight was dreary and boring (but next to the UFC112 main event was a positive Jackson vs Wanderlei); the Silva vs Maia fight was terrible, and if the Machida vs Shogun fight is the same as last time, then thats going to be a dull, technical contest also (although as long as Shogun gets the belt i dont care - im still p'd about the result of fight #1).

well Andersons a douche...I was just hoping for it to turn into a Chonan heel hook but it didn't.

Anyway according to this site this is what Anderson was saying during the fight:

Fans of Silva's native Brazil heard what Silva was speaking during the fight last night in Portuguese. Silva used terms against Maia that were very hateful and disrespectful that have made Silva infamous now in his home country.

MMA message forums in the Portuguese language have been talking about Silva's insults against Maia during the fight. Toward the end of the second round, Silva allegedly stated in Portuguese, "Bate na minha cara playboy." This is apparently translated into English as "Come on, hit me in the face playboy."

"Playboy" is actually is a tremendous insult in Brazil because of the class divisions in the country between rich and poor. In Brazil, playboys are hedonistic rich people that are pampered and care nothing for poor people and know nothing about actual life.

Silva also is said to have stated "Cade o Jiu-Jitsu?" or in English, "Where is your Jiu-Jitsu?"

When Maia could not get Silva to the floor, Silva is said to have shouted "Get up off your ass and get hit some more."

what a douche. Feed him to GSP.

oh and respect for Maia for trying, he has nothing to be ashamed of.

Watching the post fight presser now, Apparently according to Anderson the thing that so upset him and disrespected him was Maia saying if the spider has 8 legs he wouldnt mind him taking one home,

Geez, If Anderson was matched up with Frank Mir I reckon he'd end up breaking down with all the offence

silva would easily tool gsp imo if he wasnt goofing off

you reckon? I think GSP would be able to take him down and keep him down, its a situation Silva isn't used to and I really think after 1 round grappling on the ground Silva will be gassed.

but thats just my opinion im a bit of a rookie when it comes to UFC.

Found this in the UFC forums and its got me in stitches, we can only hope this will happen one day

silva has a fair bit of experience fighting from the floor. watch some of his fights before he came into ufc.

Leave the freak show fights to the Japanese.

Seriously Sonnen needs to get in with Silva, Maia is a Jiujitsu idol of mine and seeing him get humiliated like that was heart breaking. The Renzo fight was painful, but I think it was organised to draw in the Abu Dhabi elite given Renzo's relationship with the crown prince and other royalty. But Renzo literally slept walked through that fight.
