UFC 78 - Bisping vs Evans

Dissapointing night really.

Edgar was dominant over fisher. Great match up and Edgar won the bout in the scrambles and was ble to control. Was a little gutted as Fisher is one of my favorite fighters to watch. Definately bout of the night if you appreciate the technical aspects of MMA.

Herman Vs Dorkson was a little poor. I wish dorkson had another 10 seconds to finish the triangle. Late opponants are never going to be in fight shape so i feel herman was very lucky to get the win.

Alexander was exposed. He never crossed his leg to avoid the full mount and even with a high mount made no attempt to buck and turn for a sweep. His legs flailing in the air was a sign he really needs to travel and train with a variety of JJ black belts on submission defence.

Karo Vs Chonan was dull. Karo had no conditioning and was a shade on his former self. He barly made one attempt for a throw. Granted chonan is a great fighter but being a top 10 ranked judoka in the world gave him a huge advantage in the clinch and he didnt have the gas to explode!.

Bisping Vs Evans was as expected. Bisping Gassed again which is strange for those who watched him in cage warriors. He used to have great conditioning. Evens once again acted like a 'human blanket' and smothers bisping while doing little. Bisping was worse as he spent most of each round isolating the right arm of evens yet didnt make a single attempt for a triangle or arm bar. I thought evens won but it was dull.

5 out of 10 for that card. Would have been a three if it wasnt for the lightweights.

They need to start having 2/3 lightweight matchs on the cards so help keep things exciting.

Ultimate fight nights looks great with Guida Vs Huerta. I think clay could pull off the upset if he controls rodger on the ground.
 
hmm yea it was an okay night but nowt spectacular.


Chonan is an okay fighter, i have seen him a few tmes now in pride, never really impressed me, apart from his submission of Anderson. Bit of an also ran fighter though...

Bisping... what is he? not the best striker in the world. Not the best on the ground. Doesnt really have that KO power..another Also ran!
 
I watched it & have to say it was the Worst card I've seen on UFC. Unpredictable though so knowones to blame but the fights just didn't kick off like normal.
My hopes were raised in the 2nd round of Bispings fight but dashed shortly after with the normal grappling. Toe to Toe is what i want none of this cuddling nonsence.
 
Yet another boring UFC event IMO.
Never really rated bisping. In the last fight he was shocking, and in this he was just as bad. Standing back and throwing pussy shots. Manybe now he should think of moving down a weight class. As he clearly isnt good enough to contend with the top of 205.
 
Not a good event, with a pretty poor main event, where Bisping and Evans looked nowhere near title challengers and Bisping's stand up has looked rather lacking in his last two fights, although his takedown defence is pretty good.

If Bisping had gone for it more in the second and third, a very tired looking Evans was there for the taking, a few risks may have paid dividends.

We all wanted to see Alexander in a decent fight and once he was taken down, he had no idea whatsoever.
 
Boring event and only watched Ed Herman/Bisping fight, I expected Bisping to lose on points or a KO as he is acting a bit too big for his boots.

Bring on Silva vs Liddell!
 
poor event indeed - all very very average - evans was always going to get the decision but overall that was the poorest main event for ages.

I laughed when he got taken down cause he looked like someone who was being bullied and then taught a lesson.

What annoyed me about the Bisping fight was how Evans did sweet fa when he took Bisping to the floor. Bisping should never have been allowed to get back up to his feet each time he was taken to the ground. Bisping was far better on his feet but was taken to the ground far too easily.

Evan's was like Matt Hamil by doing nothing to his opponent on the ground except in this fight, the take downs scored the points.
 
Really quite poor poor event all round. Bisping vs Evans could have gone either way imo, but one thing's for sure, Rashad Evans is a seriously boring fighter. Worse than Tito imo. And yes Bisping should drop down to 185. He can fight Hendo after he takes the belt of Silva in the new year :D

I had high hopes for the Edgar vs Fisher and Karo vs Chonan matches, but both disappointed big time. The Edgar vs Fisher match was the first boring lightweight match in months.

Luckily we have Guida vs Heurta coming up which should be EPIC :)
 
Very poor card imo - seemed more like a fill-in event as there are a few coming up that look far better!
Just read that UFC 82 will be Anderson Silva and Dan Henderson to unify the UFC and PRIDE Middleweight belts!!! :D THAT should be a cracker!!!

And before that we get to see Brock Lesnar find out that the UFC ISNT the WWE against Frank Mir!! - Should be funny!!

I think your crazy. Mir used to be good but since the accident has lost his heart, cardio, flexability, defence.

Lesner is a world class wrestler (not WWE) and has been training in MMA a long time. I think he will walk through Mir with ease.

Mir is a master of submissions though. It's a recipe for disaster for Lesnar if you ask me, yes he might take him down, yes he might start a little ground n' pound, but it's certainly a possibility Mir can sink in a triangle with no problem.

I'm expecting Mir to take it. Training in MMA is different to actual experience, of which he has little.

I'd love Mir to win in fact, too many fans are hyping Lesnar up, expecting him to drop a rock bottom into the equation or something.
 
Mir is overrated and I thought he was to hyped up during his early reign. Mir has around 13 MMA fights to his name and his good times came at a very early stage. Times has changed and the competition has become so much better hence why he is struggling.

A triangle? I've heard various reports that a tap out of this sort will be very difficult due to the size of his neck or should I say, has he got a neck? ;)

I have my doubts about Lesnar wining on his opener but from some of the MMA training I've seen, the guy is an animal. Lesnar will be a ground and pound guy but his speed and power will even make him a fantastic submissionist and he has even stated that he has been working very hard on submissions.

He's a submission expert, and he has won via Triangle before, so wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if he sunk it in on Lesnar :)

It'll be an interesting fight all the same, can Lesnar really make the transition from WWE into MMA? Or will Mir show him how it's done?
 
Either way its a welcome bit of attention to the heavyweight division following the departure (?) of Couture and the disappointment of the likes of Mirko Filipovic and Brandon Vera losing recently! (cant be good when the only person Tim Silvia can call out is Cheick Congo for the no. 1 contender spot!!)
Personally I'd like to see Lesnar do well but coming from the "fluffy" background of WWE I'm not sure he will!

Time will tell.....

Firstly sinking a triangle on someone with shoulders and neck that large is very hard. Mir does not have the dexterity he once had. To apply the triangle he has to wrap his right leg (typically) around Lesnors neck and under his left knee. Not easy at all due to the size.

Secondly wrestling has become dominant in MMA. Lesnor is a NCAA division one champion. That means hes in the top 2 % of amature wrestlers in the US. Thats not easy at all.

He has also been training in MMA techniques for over 4 years and been a wrestling partner for many MMA athletes looking to work submissions on dominant wrestlers.

Mir was over rated. If im correct he was an abu dhabi champion in a weight class that has limited entries due to size. He got his name breaking tim silvias arm but that wasnt in a dominant fashion at all.

He has always had cardio problems and his diet has been poor even suring his best years.

Yes he has good submission skills but with limited wrestling, less strength, no standup, and hasnt got a fighters heart anymore (look at the imes and vera bouts).

I hate the WWE but have followed MMA since 97. Lesnors skills will dominate mir.

Feel free to bring this back up if im wrong but its very unlikely in this situation

Eh? Are you saying his style is boring? What's not to like? Hendo vs Wanderlei Silva was a classic. And the fight with Rampage was pretty darn good too.
He stands a very good chance of taking the win (only others that do are Paulo Filho and Matt Lindland). :)

I would also pick Lesnar over Mir. Mir IS over-rated and will never be top 10 imo. Lesnar however has the sheer power to get the win. I'm not saying he has a chance against the best, but he has the potential to beat a lot of the middle/lower order heavyweights.

I completely understand the logistics involved in a triangle.

As for wrestling becoming dominant in MMA, totally disagree. Who has dominated in recent MMA with wrestling alone? Sherk maybe, Hughes or perhaps Randy in a very poor heavyweight division but that's about it. The champions that you can't see being knocked from the top ( Rampage/Silva/GSP - when he gets his title back ;) ) Are all there mainly from standup, or being well rounded. Sure Rampage loves the slams, but he clearly prefers boxing.

Wrestling is vastly overrated in MMA, and I feel Mir, or if Lesnar gets past him someone else with better standup will show him how it's done. There are plenty of very talented wrestlers out there who can't hack it when it comes down to the crunch, a boxer/BJJ always has the chance of a quick/or lucky finish, i don't feel a wrestler does.

I give him 2, maybe 3 fights before he's proven to be a phoney. ( That's if he even gets past Mir, which I don't think, and certainly don't hope he will )

Standup > Wrestling
