Well ?

Saturday night - average card all round apart from the interest in the main event.

Chuck to get revenge or not on Rampage??

My guess is yes he will. I think this is one fight to soon for Rampage in the UFC and Chuck has been awesome recently.

Will be interesting to see. Rest of the cards is nothing special but lets hope for some good action!

They're only on PPV when the actual events over here I think? The one at the albert hall years ago was PPV as well.

So I'm guessing UFC 72 in Northern Ireland might be PPV as well.

UFC 71

UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Chuck Liddell (20-3) vs. Quinton “Rampage” Jackson (26-6)

Undercard:

170 lb.: Karo Parisyan (16-4) vs. Josh Burkman (8-3)
205 lb.: Keith Jardine (12-2-1) vs. Houston Alexander (6-1)
185 lb.: Ivan Salaverry (12-4) vs. Terry Martin (15-2)
185 lb.: Chris Leben (16-3) vs. Kalib Starnes (7-1-1)
155 lb.: Din Thomas (19-6) vs. Jeremy Stephens (8-1)
205 lb.: Thiago Silva (9-0) vs. James Irvin (12-3)
205 lb.: Wilson Gouveia (8-4) vs. Carmelo Marrero (6-1)
205 lb.: Alan Belcher (9-3) vs. Sean Salmon (9-2)

Is the full fight card.

Not too bad a lineup imo. The likes of Liddell, Jackson, Jardine, Leben, Burkman, Parisyan, Salaverry and Starnes are all reasonably big names in the UFC.

Will be interesting to see Chuck and Rampage going at it again, haven't seen that much of Jackson from Pride. He's going to have to bring his A game if he wants to take it to Chuck though, that guy is a wrecking machine.

I don't think Jackson has his 'A' game anymore so unfortunately I am going to have to go with Liddell in this one. I would love to see Jackson win again but I just can't see it happening.

I am looking forward to seeing the Leben v Starnes fight, I think it could be quite entertaining even though neither are in good form.

I quite like Chuck and think he'll take Rampage out, but with results going the way they have lately, anything could happen.

As for the rest of the card, not much there to get me excited on paper, but you never know.

Should be a good show. There's been some upsets lately with St. Pierre and Cro Cop losing so who knows what will happen.

UFC 71 - Liddell vs Jackson!

I'd forgotten about this until today, been looking forward to this for a while. Not seen Rampage fight for a while so not sure what sort of shape he's in, obviously I'm rooting for the Iceman.

Who's your money on?

i fancy rampage for this bout again hes the bigger man and owns chuck on the floor, but chuck is very tech for an mma fighter at standup so mabey hell just catch him and do a number on him

but if i had to pick 1 its rampage

He may be better than Chuck on the floor, but getting him there and keeping him down is another matter, he's got some of the best takedown defence in MMA.

Main event could go either way but i'd have to give the edge to Chuck purely on confidence in himself at the moment. Which of course Rampage was/is lacking due to the 3 visicious beatings he sustained in Pride semi-recently.

It could work the other way too though with the fact that 'page knows he's already beaten Chuck once, so he may find it easier to fight Chuck than he would another high level fighter at this point in time. Personally I think they should have given him two more fights, maybe they're setting him up for a loss so they can have a big third fight like they love to do.

It's mainly down to Quintons mental state, Chuck's improvements & perhaps Rampages lack of improvements.

I like both fighters a lot, but i'll be rooting for Rampage. I've followed his career more closely than Liddel's and well.. he's just a really funny guy.

In the other (televised) fights i'd take.. Karo, Leben & Jardine.

The Silva - Irvin fight could be good too.

Harsh spoiler there should have asked first ^^

;)

I watched the first fight between Jackson and Lidell and wow! He took on chucks fist beating and gave it back to him and knocked him down twice then ground and pound to finish it off.

Surprised Chuck lost though, Rampage has lost 6 fights and it would be interesting to see how...

Clearly both of these monsters hit very hard!

OMG just watched this, gutted with the Chuck result but I'm sure he will bounce back.

Rest of the event was ok, nothing spectacular. The Alexander-Jardine fight was good.

Only 3 weeks to go until 72 :D

***SPOILER*** - just incase :p

Great event tbh, so happy that Rampage won, he'll be a good champ for the UFC, he's a very marketable guy, he was massive in Pride.

He might not hold on to it for to long though when you know there's people like Shogun, Henderson and Wanderlei going to be around now due to the merge.

You know what Dana said in Press conference after.. Chuck will get to fight Wandelei now that both are not champs anymore, a massively long awaited match, that'll be a spectacular fight.

At the end of the day imo Shogun is #1 in the world at the weight at the moment, and has been for a year or two now. Hope he gets the oppurtunity to hold either the ufc or pride belt soon. To me he is the very essence of the future fighters in mma, very well rounded.

If you don't know who shogun is..

He got beat quite badly twice by Silva and also got taken apart by 'Shogun' Rua. I believe Sakuraba submitted him too but can't really recall that fight. Silva and Rua both used a lot of knees which seemed very effective against Rampage.

As for last night:
I thought it was a decent enough card, enjoyed the Parisyan/Burkman fight the most. Thought Karo looked really relaxed and confident.

Houston Alexander was explosive, didn't expect the fight to end so quick.

Rampage won thankfully although I couldn't see it happening, still not sure if he's back or if the KO made him look like he could still have something left.

Interesting that Rampage will fight Henderson next, not quite sure who I fancy in that one. I assume that the winner of that will probably fight either Liddell or 'Shogun' Rua. (Read something that said Shogun has signed for the UFC, not sure if it's true or not), Shogun is my favourite fighter but I'm not sure how he'd do in the cage rather than a ring.

Seems like a number of the top guys in Pride are going over to the UFC. How much longer will it be before Nogueria and Fedor move over? It's a shame really since I really enjoy Pride and I prefer the fight being in a ring and being able to stomp downed opponents. Will Pride be used as a training ground for fighters to move in to the UFC or can it continue to have big success and some of the best fighters?

Next Up: UFC 72 - Franklin v Okami has the potential to be a really good match up
