Getting close to midnight, look out my windows and I see 3 fairly bright lights (under cloud level), the thing that freaked me out was the fact that there was no flashing, they all were of similar distance apart and in a line going in the same direction, after this I started seeing many more and even a few which seemed to be coming towards us against the wind

When I first saw them was trying to look for an explanation so straight away I figured they were those small flying balloons since it was new years an all, it was v. difficult to make out anything with binoculars either, but we definately realised they were the candle balloons when we saw one rise rapidly then fall quickly and saw a piece break off

BUT for about 5 minutes of my life I actually genuinely thought they were UFO's and I was becoming worried, they looked so odd in the sky, so it turned out they were IFO's

Anyone else seen anything similar tonight/before?

Welcome to the first UFO thread of 2010. ;)

Let me be the first to wish our lizard overlords a Happy New Year. :D

i saw exactly the same thing when driving home at around half 10 lastnight. there was 3 of them going up diagonally about a half a mile away. what got me was the fact they were so close and going fairly fast then they just dissapeared, no cloud cover either, i guessed they were those air baloon things with a candle in and they had run out of oxygen or into a strong wind.

i am very happy that ive now seen a ufo even if it wasnt aliens :p

saw about 100 over Nottingham last night, all in a line all being carried in the same direction by the wind.
