Far far away....
I need a compete list of the UK counties and the designated abbreviations.

The best list I have found so far is here

Is this list complete and up to date or is there another list that I should be looking at?

Thanks !

It has Dunbartonshire, whereas I live in East Dunbartonshire, which is what all the council signs/literature is as they use the E of East as the logo. But East Dunbartonshire isnt on the list...

It has Avon which I don't think is an official county anymore. Although the name still seems to be used a lot.

Same can be said for Dyfed in Wales. Was replaced years ago with Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire.

EDIT: They have Ceredigion listed as Cardiganshire. So either a few thousand people have been using wrong addresses (inc. the council) or we missed the memo!

Your question is not totally un ambiguous. There are counties in Scotland as well as dozens of other types of division. Indeed, the type of divisions in Scotland depend on what you are talking about:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Counties_of_Scotland

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scotland#Geographical_Subdivisions

As for the UK please take a look at:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Kingdom#Administrative_subdivisions

Hopefully this will give you a start..

I don't know about Wales or N.I, perhaps checking the wiki should help.

Edit to fix dumb mistakes

I don't think there has ever been a Kinross-shire, and if there has, it was a long time ago. It also lists Perth, which I don't think has ever been a county name, it was "Perth and Kinross" for a while, but now it's Perthshire.
From what other people have said, there are a few similar things with other counties. I'd probably take it as a rough template, but it's not 100% correct. It would take a bit of work, but if you did a search for the council of each county, you'd probably get the correct county name. For example, I put Kinross into google, and the first answer I got was the Perth and Kinross council website, with a huge Perthshire logo in the middle.
