applying for a passport today, the first question is 'what type of passport are you applying for?'

My old one expired in '11, which was a child's passport, this will be my first adult passport.

the only 2 option that would apply are:

Renewal of your passport: adult / child
Your first British passport: adult / child

while it's not my first passport, would this be classed as an adult renewal or my first adult passport?

Thanks

No interview needed as he has a childrens passport already. Its the same process as renewing an adult passport

I thought they were going to start doing interviews for everyone at some point? unless you had previously done an interview

the interview is easy as hell anyway, some of the questions I had that I can remember were.

who do you have banks with. (I think he might have asked how long I had been with each bank as well)
who is your isp
what is your email address
what is your date of birth.
what is your parents date of birth (got one of them wrong by a day)
where do you live.
what are your previous addresses
what is your phone number. (my mind went blank but I remembered what it was near the end)

I think it only took around 20-30minutes

Heh, I'll take advantage of this thread. I had a passport when I was a kid in 2008 I got my first passport, I reckon it expired 2010 or something, will I always be able to renew it?

nope they interview some people for first adult passport if you read the guidance

They only interview if you never have had a passport before, an ABI interview to prove your identity. Child passport to adult passport is just a standard renewal. It says this quite clearly in the guidance.

Anyone applying for for a their first passport as an adult needs to go to an interview. Because he already holds a childs passport he doesnt need to do this. I work in a HMPO call centre and this question comes up all the time

No the guidance clearly says first adult passport, anyway I don't care I have a passport so never have to worry, just making the OP aware

Me n the misses had to go for interview last year was very easy i even got most of the questions wrong with regards to my familys info could not tell them my mums or dads birthday or anniversary and got postcode wrong also couldn't tell them my misses mobile number either

First thing i said to the guy was i think i might fail as unlike everyone else in the building i did not have and revision materials lol he just laughed said the answers not important its more about the way you give them.

It was all very simple only odd question i had was about the layout of my house was done in less than 5 mins spent he spent another 20 telling me about all the things he loved to do when goes to disney world as that was our destination

When we went on holiday last year we had to get passports.
I'd never had one before but the last one my husband had was a child one and the post office told him it was a renewal. His expired way before '11 too.

Also when I went for my interview last year I was told they are now interviewing all new applicants.

I was covered under my parents passport when I was younger (take it this is what people are referring to as a 'child's passport'). When I applied for my first adult passport I had to go for an interview...This was about 5-6 years ago.
