UK Road Quality

What's ****ing me off at the moment is the council here are spending god knows how much money on putting speed-bumps in on main roads whilst the other end has car-sized potholes. Makes me rage that does.

leaving the potholes and not bothering with speed bumps would be win win then

Roads in southern Ireland are dreadful. We have it lucky here compared to them.

Considering the weather they get in Sweden however I was quite impressed with the quality of their roads when I visited!

Tbh from many road pics on skyscrapercity, UK's main roads look in very decent condition imho, perhaps not like new roads here, but I can't really fault the majority I've seen.

Council roads however... I've seen vids that absolutely gobsmacked me how terrible the roads were.

While usually roads around here are in awesome condition, winter + age can kill the very open asphalt they use here:

Will easily turn into this in very few years and a couple of bad winters:

These things are usually fixed in max. 2 weeks and a speed limit of 50 kph or 70kph is installed on very bad stretches, but every worse than average winter the roads are a mess for a week or 2, just have to live with it.

the above last 3 pics look like the roads around here just now, a complete state. The harder than usual winter has just destroyed the roads and 5 months later the council have yet to make any significant progress in putting them right.
The money made off the motorist must be ridiculous yet very little of that money seems to make its way back into the road system. Oh well, keeps me busy since i'm a mechanic, so I shouldn't really complain, crap roads = broken cars = me busy :D
