UK spy drones!

Are they flying robocops? :) How are they meant to stop mugging taking place? By flying over the chavs?

They not meant to stop muggings directly. They don't swoop down and mini-gun the chavs :(

They're designed to increase and improve surveillance over events such as football matches. Hopefully they'll be able to decrease crime by catching more people committing violence, vandalism etc and then making more arrests, creating a stronger deterrent.

These are nothing more than unmanned police helicopters....would you be outraged to see one of them flying overhead?? I know I wouldn't.

I dont see the big deal (at the moment) with all of this. I've not nothing to hide, I dont see why anyone who's law abiding would.

CCTV has helped immeasurably in the fight against crime and I dont feel like my privacy has been invaded.

iCraig, it has absolutely **** all to do with CCTV and the Police.

This is where I stopped talking to you iCraig.

The rest of the post that you have attempted to tear to shreads were related to the fact that other measures could be sort to deal with crime other than having survelliance equipment being pointed at us everywhere we go.

its the slow tricle of intrusion of innocent people lives, can you imagine relaxing in your garden and then suddenly one of these things looms in over the hedge and just hangs around you garden for no reason, you know your not doing nowt but it still stays there watching, listening to you and your family. I know I don't want that kind of intrusion into my life thank you.

Because this will happen sooner or later

If one of these things did that in my garden i would take the damn thing down!!! I completely agree with the people who say this is yet another intrusion into our lives by a government that wants control over everything.

They not meant to stop muggings directly. They don't swoop down and mini-gun the chavs

Maybe they should though. ;)

The people who are saying it free's up valuable police time are kidding themselves. Free them up to do what? Sit in a control room and play with radio controlled helicopters? Go out and remove some film from the tens of thousands of government revenue earning cameras (speed cameras) that do nothing to catch drunk/drink drivers, dangerous drivers, drivers with no tax/insurance or MOT, banned drivers. There is NO substitute for a bobby on the beat or police in patrol cars. They are the real deterrent and not a camera on every corner, which is the way that we are heading.

Weighing just a kilo, these thing's won't be any good if it's windy anyway. If a sparrow farts next to one it would blow it over and send it crashing to the ground.

Obviously not, because you wrote several more paragraphs after that first quote. :p

Which has nothing to do with the topic of drone surveillance . Answer me this if you can; There's a major football game. Tens thousands of spectators, high rivalry, a lot of tension. A riot breaks out. What should happen? Turn all the CCTV off and ground all the drones? OK, nobody was seen on any footage, and nobody's privacy was even slightly invaded, but what do you do when the hundreds of people start contacting the police about being assaulted and mugged. Then the hundreds of people phoning the police about the various acts of vandalism and abuse they've received as the rioting fans tore up their street. The police can't do anything, with no CCTV they have no evidence to prosecute suspects.

What's the realistic alternative? Deploying a few thousand police officers is unrealistic IMO.

Like that would ever happen. There are no grounds or legislation whatsoever for the police to spy on you like that for no reason. You're taking your fear and projecting it onto this like it's fact.

How do you know? Because you've watched Minority Report? There is no indication that that is where we're heading. You've grossly exaggerated the current situation and speculated and imagined the future.

It's like me seeing that Honda Robot and then starting a thread that in 50 years time we'll be at war against the machines, because it will happen sooner or later.

You think police helicopters are useless as well then?

I think a few patrols would do better.

That's fair enough, and they might do good for this job, but personally, if I was out in town trying to mug someone, a couple of cops walking around would be a much bigger headache to me than a flying toy :D

Wont work.

The first time one crashes in a populated area there will be outrage. No one cares if the military ones crash into a load of people in a middle eastern country, but by god they will if it lands in the middle of a Man U vs Chelsea Game haha.

Also, they still tie up resources, as they are controlled by poeple on the ground, who otherwise could be on the beat.
