i have the Max internet service with ukfsn, the last few days i have found the internet very slow and my downloads from newshosting are about 56k, i have reset my modem/router and my pc is connected via cable (not wifi).

i cant figure out why my connection is so slow, i downloaded this little app called nuria that tests your surf speed and download speed, it says my surf speed is 14.1 seconds and my download speed is 425kbps (i dont get the 8mbs where i am), so im confused why my internet is so slow and my downloads are so slow.

any ideas guys

Can you follow this test: http://speedtester.bt.com/ and report back with the actual speed, sync and profile of your connection.

for some reason its just stuck at the testing page, how long should this test take i have tried twice

its stuck saying

The Performance Tester is now testing Broadband connection. Your configured download throughput speed for this service is 500 k

Please do not move away from this page and do not start any other download activity on your computer.

Can you follow this test: http://speedtester.bt.com/ and report back with the actual speed, sync and profile of your connection.

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 500 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 4704 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 423 kbps

speed tester working for me now for some reason here are the results

Your profile has been set incorrectly. Probably due to lots of resyncs. Give it 72hours, giving the router a resync every day or so. If it still hasn't changed send a email to Jason asking BT to reset it.

The time taken for the profile to go up is now up to 5 days so it may take a bit longer than 72 hours unfortunately.

Also it will only go up if it doesn't suffer any more low syncs like the one that got it there in the first place.

However, if it does continue to sync at that rate and it hasn't gone up after 5 days then a support call is in order as they can look at the profile history and see if there have been any other low speed syncs causing the problem that you may not have noticed.

cheers for the info guys, ill wait a few days and see if it goes up, do you mean by 'resync' the same as resetting my router ?

many thanks

If after 5 days it is still stuck, when you call Support ask them to check your Radius settings as one or two apparently 'stuck' Entanet customers seem to have had a problem with that recently so worth asking.

my download speed is up to 450k today so its fixed itself for some reason i did another speed test and here are the results

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 4000 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 4576 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 3560 kbps

Good news then.

One word of caution though, your current sync of 4576 is only just barely high enough to keep your profile at 4000kbps, if it drops below 4544 your profile will get reduced to 3500kbps.

ok cheers for that, i take it theres nothing i can do about that then

thanks for all the help

There may be quite a bit you could do but it depends on the quality of the wiring in your house.

You may want to connect your router to the test socket that is behind the lower front cover on the master socket.

If your line stats are noticeably better when connected there then there is hope you can do something to improve the rest of the wiring in the house.
