So as to get away from the traditional "spec me" thread tell me what I'm missing from my kit that'll "pimp my camping trip"

My Kit

North Face Rucksack / decent Sleeping Bag / Roll Matt / very decent Tent
Police Tek Torch
Swiss Army Knife (just a bog standard one)
First aid kit
"hand operated" phone charger
"hand operated" mobile charger & torch
OS Explorer maps
Food (tracker bars :p)
Mobile phone
Compass (>= GPS)
5 year old but trusty walking boots!

Is that compass is greater than a GPS or "or a" GPS?

In either case I would take both (and I regularly do). :)

As for what you are missing, erm, change of clothes? :p
Also spare batteries for torch, cooking impliments (MSR Pocket rocket and Primus saucepan is what I use, oh and a spork ;)), waterproof bag/clothes...

I have a list somewhere of what I take, and I always loose it... Where are you going and how many of you are going, it may help with the "specs".

depends, what do you do on this 'camping trip'? Some big differences between backpacking between camp sites, car camping, overnight wild camping or even multi day wild camping.

Location could play a part too - if it's anywhere near scotland get a mosquito net, don't rely on the mesh in your tent.

Location is the Lakes, it's backpacking between campsites. And thanks amp34 I did think of clothes :D I don't normally take a GPS unit as I think, it's a bit OTT in the summer months. Most of the camp sites have pubs near by for food so I've just thought I'd take a few basics to keep me by incase I'm stuck somewhere for a few hours in bad whether (unlikely at this time of the year though)

I must admit as soon as I read your list I thought... "Where's the spork?" Tbh I'm not sure how you've survived without one!

It's the summer, how many torches do you need? It doesn't even get dark till 10ish. Surely just a small single led one for the tent?

Should be thinking what you can be doing to reduce weight rather than the other way around.

* Blastmatch or a StrikeForce Fire Starter

* good / loud whistle

* a decent knife (bog standard swiss army knives just don't cut it)

* Leatherman

* Paracord

Hmmm, what else...

I was going to say take a camera.
Possibly a hat if you're out in the sun (hopefully!) all day.

Sounds like a lot of fun, hope you enjoy it.
