Ultimate Detailing Machine

My car cleaning falls very much into the 10% of the effort for 90% of the results camp but I can still appreciate why people go to all the effort and expense of doing paint correction.

Anyone who can't spot a heavily swirled up dark coloured car in strong sunlight from 15 feet away shouldn't be on the roads as their eye sight obviously isn't up to it.

A couple of months ago I might have considered a machine polisher and all the gubbins but now I'm a bit more relaxed about the new motor :o

Nobody has said it makes NO difference. If anything, those pics have reinforced what I am saying, you have to be at a certain distance/height/angle and under a certain light to see the difference.

But the paint is rediculously smooth which means you spend less time washing it for quite a period after. Indeed in this weather its close to self-cleaning paint. Its not all about how the car looks.

That I can't argue with, but from a purely aesthetic standpoint, I don't 'get it'.

To be fair a lot of people don't get modified cars either.

I don't know why everyone hates detailing. Maybe people should describe it as 'Caring about attention to detail when cleaning their cars' rather than 'detailing'.

Still though, I can't be arsed to do it, even though the results are great on a really clean car.

Those pictures were particularly poor, even I couldnt see the difference. But the point is that on many cars you CAN see the difference.

Here is a freshly washed black Leon Cupra R:

It signifies everything thats wrong with buying a black car. Lovingly cleaned by a guy with a sponge and... oh dear. I mean look at it. Nice sunny day and your pride and joy, despite being immaculately clean and dried looks like a complete mess.

You have to all agree, it looks crap. Yes?

So, here comes a pointless, waste of time, OCD detailing moron to make no difference to the paintwork:

Surely now you get it?

With DreXeL here, even with regard to the Leon example. It looks better but i wouldnt really care either way.

I'd get a car detailed, but only for sale reasons, not for myself.

Do you not take pride in things you own?

If aimed at me, then no. The only things i own which have any kind of feeling attached to them are photo albums and old stuffed toys from when i was a child, things like that, things which i cannot simply replace instantly with a better one with a bank withdrawal.

Do you leave your other personal posessions to become a complete state? Is your television covered in dust? Is your keyboard covered in food and stale ketchup? Is your phone scraped, scratched and dented? Is your grass short?

Perhaps you wear torn clothes? Why keep your tshirts in good condition, you can just buy new ones..

So you only keep things nice if you can't afford to simply make a cash withdrawl and buy another?

How very stupid. Thats like me treating my 5 Series like crap simply becuase I could set fire to it, pop to HSBC, and get some money for another one

Pride has nothing to do with memories.

My house is clean for hygene reasons, but in principle no, i dont care about any of my stuff at all. If something becomes demaged in a way that it affects its operation then it will be binned and replaced with a better one. I cannot see how mass produced off the shelf stuff like normal cars and television sets and mobile phones can have any value at all to their owner (beyond their cash worth).

Simon - not totally sure what you mean?

So you absolutely don't understand why somebody who has spend thousands and thousands of pounds on something might want to keep it in pristine condition? You don't understand why somebody would like all of their posessions to be free of cosmetic defects?

Don't you get the fact that cool looking consumer electronic devices look crap with big scrapes down the side of them, and that posh cars look crap covered in scratches? And that LCD TV's look rubbish if all the finish is peeling off, for example?
