Having just sold my house, and having made about £60k I have decided to build an ultimate PC and use my current pc as a server for my wireless internet and video streaming....

I am thinking AMD now as these seem a bit more stable these days, and my 3.8ghz P4 is so noisy when the fan kicks in....

So....

Spec me an ultimate box, say 2gb ram, dual core 64bit, 2x radeon cards that will give uber performance... and max reliability...

Links to OCUK pages will be appreciated if you have the time....

Price is not a problem, upto say £4k

:D

hehe always a couple of scroungers about...

;)

Gotta buy a house and car as well, just treating myself...

Lian li funky case looks the nads.... can survive with the current storage as have 1.2tb on my server....

Should have said, dont need a monitor as I have a decent tft with a KVM switch already... VGA only tho...

Well, when I say decent, as good as I need

Also already have an Audigy 2 ZS with Creative 7.1 speaker system...

:D

Ultima Extreme Crossfire with Vapo looks VERY tempting

:D

Wife has veto'd a new PC... darn... but has said I can upgrade...

So looks like its the dual core FX60, Mobo + another gb of ram and then adding an x850 xt crossfire master card...

Or maybe 2 x1900 cards and give her my X850 XT

:(

How much is your upgrade budget going to be?

It would be lovely to have two x1900s in crossfire, also go with an FX60 and 2GB of RAM. As for the motherboard, it might be worth holding out for bit if you're planning to go with crossfire for the RD580 chipset boards to be released.

Budget will be around £2.5k ish... may not need to pay vat if its for export to egypt..

:D

just how much better is the FX60 Dual core than say a 3.46 dual core p4?

Is the DDR400 a bottleneck compared to the DDR2 888 on the p4? is the p4 cpu no good?

I know crosfire isnt available on p4 yet, but surely thats just a matter of time?

All superfluous....

Have a MS Gaming Laser mouse, DD5.1/DTS speakers, MS force feedback wheel, joystick etc... and Z-Board.

Also have a 21 inch TFT and DLP projector for display...

Rest looks doable, tho vapo may be a waste of time here in summer... as airconditioners are always on full

As you've not ordered it yet Dr Who CHANGE THE MOBO :P... the DFI Crossfire board is over priced, underspecced and well if the ultimate OCuK build uses the Asus, so should you /wink.

There have been people with issues with the Asus but they seem to be centered around the CPU's who's voltage demands are high and thus you can't overvolt them too well however I believe the FX is low voltage so no problem and certainly the ocuk build is awsome and overclocked with the Asus board.

Oh and it wouldn't surprise me if Quad 7800's where beaten but dual X1900's :P

Okay, may go with the Asus, but the DFI has an extra EIDE connector doesnt it?

If so then I will switch to a sata boot drive

:D

Alienware do some nice systems, but for a Desktop/Tower, nothing you wont find better/cheaper at OCUK....

I have been building PC's now since the 486's and OCUK have remained the best overall for price/service/range throughout the comings and goings of other lessor suppliers/immitators..
