Ultimate PC

Hardly beast of a PC. Not enough storage, I have more. Why not get Raptor for boot and several 320GB or 400GB WD/Seagates? The 500GB and 700GB's are expensive but GB, sweetspot is 320GB although 400GB are coming down.
He doesnt need it hes building a NAS for all his files and things he will basically just have windows and games on his HDD's

I would be primarily using this system for Gaming but with other things e.t.c and I do multitask but is the dual core not better than the quad core for gaming ?

the akasa are great looking cases ;)

Looks like im going for the Lian-Li PC-V2100BplusII because it will be big enough for what I need and I'm sticking a window in it ;) .

Graphics wise, I don't know ..... Maybe it's just because I want the best ?

Storage : blitz2163 your right, I will have my NAS server for all the rest of the stuff I want on it - music, movies e.t.c, and 300gb worth of Raptors for games will do me.

Still need advice on the Dual Core/Quad Core debate. Should I wait for the Quad Core Extreme or just go with the Dual Core Extreme, If I OC the Quad core and will get it to say 4ghz or whatever, it will have better preformance than the Dual Core at the same CPU frequency ?

Quad core could be good but to be honest you won`t notice much of a difference unless your really using your PC for highend stuff like rendering 3D or Video.

I would also buy 8 Aegia Physics cards, just to "be the best" too
What exactly will you be doing with this machine? Hopefully HD editting and encoding. Dual core is only taking off now (for games) so do you really think quad core will be the standard soon? Yes for Windows it'll help, but only for a high-end server.

Drop the Raptors and go for SCSI for your boot/programs drive, and get some sort of RAID solution for storage/backup - it's strange how people spend a ton on the CPU/Graphics but not the I/O....

I would say 150GB just for OS and Games was plenty, I don't think you really need that many raptors. Say on game takes up 5GB (most dont) and the OS (30GB) thats 24 games minimum! My windows install with a couple of games only takes up half of the 40GB partition its on.

I can see so many people from here going out and getting a Quad Core and then complaining about not seeing any real advantage and wasting a ton of money... because they are gaming or interneting rather than doing highend work.

I dunno what people are on about saying not to spend all that money on a raptor, i noticed a big difference in loading maps for games.. hell im never late entering a server after changing maps, im usually early and others dont enter until around 5-10 seconds later.

I odn`t have a raptor but my Games partition is on raid 0 with 2 sata drives and I normally beat 60-70% of people entering a CSS server... sure some of that could be down to connection aswell but I have a crappy connection thats only going at 2.5Mbs down and 0.5Mbs up when it should be 8Mbs down...

Regarding Quad Core- I was told that the expected RRP is the same as the X6800 ? - This is for gaming! - I was originally going for the X6800 and I think that I should then if there is not a lot of point in the Quad Core at all.

I will be getting the physics card that Nvidia will release to use with their 680i SLI mobo's.

I am still staying with my original HDD selection. The 74gb Raptor will handle Xp/Vista e.t.c fine with any addons and the 300gb ( 150gbX2) combination will handle things like games, photoshop and any HD intensive applications.

I am going to be using a Dell 2407 monitor with this so hopefully it will work with this combo well :D.
