You don't need 2x master cards for crossfire, you can get something like the Sapphire X1900 XT 512MB for £260.79 and the combination works fine ;)

a few quick questions, y the need for 2 raptors and a 320gb? i wouldn't get the zalmann cooler i would prefer the scythe mine or ninja over this! and if i had your money i would go with one of the tagan turbo-jet psu's rather than the OCZ!

that's my two pennie's worth and i thankyou

My ultimate (and nearly finished) computer is...

Conroe Extreme
Intel Bad Axe
G.Skill 2GB DDR2 HZ PC2-6400 (2x1GB)
Connect3D ATI Radeon X1900 XT-X 512MB
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Music
2 x Western Digital Raptor 36.7GB WD360GD 10,000RPM SATA 8MB
2 x Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB
Custom Water Cooling System (CPU and GPU)
4 x Case Fans
1 x DVDRW
1 x DVDROM
1 x Digital TV Card
1 x Seasonic S12 600W Silent ATX2.0 Power Supply
1 x Lian-Li PC V2000B PLUS Black Aluminium Full-Tower

What do you all think??

Stelly

I would also recommend some kind of sata raid card also - if you want that many hdd on one board. They may wel have enough plugs on mobo but some will be attached to PCI bus, rather than making the add-in card do the work

Also I dont believe Raptors work that much better in Raid configs - and therefore having 1 is a great idea but you may well not need the 2nd

You not getting it from OcUK, right? Because going for £355.97 incl. VAT :)

& donno if its the same with sound cards, but anything Fatal1ty is OTT

Also I'd see this regarding that mobo :D

I'm not really to bothered about the performance advantage, just the additional space. I have a nasty habit of filling HDrives

Shouldn't that say £355? (edit: too slow)

Or get this one:

G.Skill 2GB DDR2 HZ PC2-6400 (2x1GB) CAS4 Dual Channel Kit (F2-6400PHU2-2GBHZ) (MY-013-GS)
£173.84

Well spotted slight cockup on the copy and paste :D

EDIT: I have access to a 775 so not worried about bios problems

New Total is £2363

That's going to be one incredible rig!
I would hope so for the price. I am tempted to switch the mobo for one that supports 3 graphics cards so i can put a x1600 or something in to act as a physics card

Imo, dont get a physics card. They just aren't worth it atm.

Very similar to my system too:-

Intel x6800 processor
Intel D975XBX motherboard
G.Skill 2GB DDR2 HZ PC2-8000 (2x1GB)
Enermax Liberty 500w PSU
Coolermaster Mystique case

Taking these from my current system (Shuttle SN26P)
150gb Raptor
2 x 7900GT video cards (not sure what to do here)
Pioneer DVR 111 DBK optical drive

Should I stick with 1 GT and then upgrade in the autumn or just go crossfire and push the boat out even more? The video solution needs to drive my Sony SDM-P234 (1920x1200).

depends how much money you have to spend, you should be able to get £160-£180 for the gt's (depending on wht they are) so to go crossfire with x1900's will cost somewhere in the region of £300

Then why get a raptor at all?

Or just get one and the 4 "standard" sata drives

Thats a good point...

Just thought the title says "Ultimate System" - But I know the E6600 is good and all but its not ultimate. X6800 is much better in an "Ultimate system".
