Ultimate - Uni or work?

Work, totally.

I mean come on, the last thing you want to do at the end of 10-12 years of schooling is to do another 4.

I went to uni for a year before i realised the above, and realised i didnt want to learn for the sake of learning anymore. Ofcourse you carry on learning all your life, but when your doing that learning 'hands-on' at a job you can actually apply it and get some satisfaction.

That only pays off at the start. If you have 2 people who have years and years of experience you're gonna choose the one with a degree as they'll edge it.

These days, I'd say get the job. Most decent jobs need a few years training anyway, so your 3 years studying is doubly wasted as it's probably irrelevant to your job and has cost you time, money and experience.

Yes, I am bitter. Wish I'd got a job instead of going to uni. Only good thing I got out of uni was my wife.

i went to uni for 3 months, was never really for me and left last month the course material was interesting but i just didnt fit in or enjoy it as much as i expected. i got into a spiral of depression and didnt eat and ended up quite ill so i thought i had to do something

I remember your thread. I'm sorry to hear it got so bad for you last term.

If you don't mind me asking, were you actually diagnosed as depressed?

That doesn't happen unless the job states that you require a degree, which is unusual in IT.

In low level IT jobs maybe but not in the highest paying and most rewarding ones tbh..

Get a degree. It cannot harm you at all and will only make you a more rounded individual. You can also never be overqualified. If a interviewer says you are then you're aiming too low.

be a sparky trust me, im 22 and back in college doing a BTEC in medical science and am thinking about doing a degree when i've finished the BTEC but the thought of doing 3 more years of acedemic studies with no pay is kinda depressing. My dads an electrician whos soon to retire and hes done well for himself, kinda thinking maybe I should have done that myself..

Tbh i think i think a degree is good(as in will you have the time of your life) when you 18 not in your mid 20's, you will feel like the more mature one as in uni most people have just turned 18 and they will annoy you trust me.

Out of the two options in getting a degree or working as a spark/joiner which will have the most likelihood of higher earnings? Just another thing to confuse me further...
