Hey,

Just built a system consisting of a Core Ultra 7 265K and Z890 Aorus Elite Wifi7 Board.

All boots up fine, However CpuZ and Windows is reporting only 6P+10E Cores...when it should be 8P+12E.

I've updated the Bios from F5 (Which was ancient) to latest F15 which apparently added a ton of microcode.
But still I'm missing 2P cores and 2E cores!

Any idea?

They all say the same thing,6P+10E

What i thought was weird is Hwinfo shows 4 more cores on that graph but they're not active.

I'm am using a windows install that was previously on a AM5 setup, Do you possibly think windows could be the problem?

Interesting, very strange, looks like they're present, but not being recognised for some reason.

Have you done a CMOS clear at any point with the new board? I know that BIOS updates tend to do that anyway, but I wonder if something is being held over and it needs scrubbing out.

Note that a reset can cause problems if you have encryption (Bitlocker), Windows Hello or a TPM enabled, so be cautious if you do.

Who knows, AM5 to Core Ultra isn't a common route, so not sure how you'd find out except trial and error.

Well, I've just reset bios to defaults again just in case but still the same 6P+10E.

il re-install Windows fresh and see if that sorts the issue, Maybe there could be something installed from the previous instillation on this Nvme that's AMD related that's causing this issue.

i mean i was going to re-install windows anyway, This was just a test boot up.

Il re-install Windows 11 and see if the problem persists.
Nothing every goes smooth for me! :D

What does the BIOS say?

If the BIOS detects it correctly, then I'd assume the problem is software related.

If the BIOS does not detect it correctly, then I'd assume the problem is maybe just a BIOS issue, the mounting/pin contact, or worst case: an unfixable hardware defect.

It's fixed yay!
It was the old windows install causing the issue, now with a fresh install of 11 it's showing the full counts in windows, cpuz and hwinfo.
8P+12E & 20 Threads.
Appreciate the help & suggestions, thank you!

It will be what rroff said if you were using an old install of windows. At some point you would have enabled at the time all the cores on your old install bit with the new processor the setting would have carried over.
