on the bios i have 'cpu vid tartup value' and it is now set at 1.425 volts. I change it to 1.5 volts to try and get 3ghz out of my processor and when i go back into the bios it hasnet changed.

do i need to change the 'cpu VID control' aswell to make it change? it is prime stable at 2.8ghz but if i move it to 1.5 it will save the bios then just before windows starts it will restart itself. Also i have seen people writing about how they wont go past 1.6volts. my options only go up to 1.55 anyway

also what is the 'cpu vid special control'

thanks

"cpu vid special control" does increase the value that you have set in "cpu vid" dialog with that percentage shown.

example:
cpu vid - 1.3v
cpu vid special - 110%

voltage applied will be 110% of 1.3volts = 1.43volts

I'm sure you now realize the possibility of going above 1.55volts ;)

..but there has been reports of bois getting "stuck" on voltage, rare but has happened.
Only solution is try another bios.

thanks, yeh i know. im not going to go above 1.55 anyway.

do i change the cpu vid control to 1.5 aswell as the cpi VID startup value?

You can use either or both, just remember the formula:

CPU Voltage = CPU Vid * CPU Special %

Personally, I'd say that unless you going above 1.55V, I'd leave the special alone and just change the VID, as you then know exactly what voltage your putting through the chip.

I've never changed the CPU VID startup value.

thanks, ill change mine when i get home. (turn startup off and put VID on 1.5)

The CPU VID Startup value is only applied when the computer is booting as far as I know. Its for giving the CPU a bit more juice, helpful for chips that might not like cold booting at certain overclocks without a few more volts:)
