Hi everybody,
Please dont laugh at me too much, but I have recently bought one of the X1950 pro's http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-063-OK&tool=3 on the basis that I had a little bit of spare money floating around and fancied giving my machine a bit of a tart up.
Now, I have almost zero knowledge about graphic cards, over clocking etc but having snooped through the forums it seemed like this would be a good upgrade for the price.
However, having now received the card I have realised that it in order to power it i need a "specialized 12V graphics card power connector" in order to run the thing, which I had not seen mentioned anywhere in the product details. I had just assumed it was PCI-express and therefore would just slot in in place of my old card and away i'd go.
However, having installed it i find myself with this 3 pronged power cable thing with 4 pins on the end of each one, one (ill call it a female connection coz i dont know any better) end of which plugs into the card itself and leaves me with a spare female connector hanging off the side, and the other end has a 4 pronged male connector which i can find no place in my machine to plug it into! The only spare plugs floating around are 2 little black 6 pin fellas which i have never known what were for.
The system im running is (for my sins, i told you i dont know much
) a Dell XPS 600, Pentium 4 3.2Ghz with 2GB of ram. Its got a dual SLi board which used to have 2 6800's in when i got it until one of them died, and so now just runs with the one 6800 (which i must say seems to have made no difference at all).
So please, if anyone can at least point me in the right direction as to whether there is anything that can be done to get this card hooked up with my machine it would be hugely appreciated.
Thanks very much for reading this far, hope it makes some kind of sense
