I always wondered if they drank it in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, or the Republic of the Congo - or maybe it was both!

Ha.... seems the people who updated the Wikipedia page have similar thoughts:

It was believed it was unlikely that Um Bongo is drunk in either the Republic of the Congo or the Democratic Republic of the Congo, but the Portuguese version has been spotted for sale in a 'Jambo mart'[7] in Lubumbashi in Democratic Republic of the Congo.
