I wanted to format a hard drive that has no OS on it and after googling DBAN was the recommended method and looked pretty straightforward to do. It's only a 1tb drive but apparently it's going to take 6 hours to complete the format. Since I was only intending on a quick format can I turn the system off and try an alternate way or will doing so cause irrevocable damage to the disk?
