Um.. just started FAH

Righty, i've got my XP3200 crunching now... but i still think it takes ages :p

Its doing about 1% every half hour :/ This seem about right?
it depends totally on which project it is and how many points it's worth

if you've got fahmon installed then find "benchmarks" in the menu and see what ppd (points per day) you're getting

my best WU on my fastest machine is getting over 260ppd at the moment but the same machine can easily get less than half that with a particularly nasty WU :o

Ok, my AthlonXP is doing avg of 97ppd, and the P3 is doing..36ppd.

One other thing, the P3 machine says "Time checkpoint triggered" and its been like that for about 10mins now :/

Sorry, i dont really know what to expect.. only started running this yesterday.. so expect a few more questions later :p :(

that just means that it's saved the progress of the WU (default is every 15 minutes) in between frames so if you turn the machine off the most you should lose is almost 15 minutes of work ever :)

It has to be said that watching F@H isn't the most exciting thing since the WUs are so long - however even after a few years I still find myself doing it from time to time :p

The ppd for an "average" machine should be about 110 ppd so an older machine may get much lower and a newer heavily overclocked machine may get more. Also machines that use SSE2 will get a lot more since the benchmark machine has SSE2 disabled when valuing the work.

Just wondered is SSE2 only used with newer cores? Will there be a new version of Fahmon that uses SSE3? I also read somewhere that its best to use toe ForceSSE command instead of forceasm for AMDs as apparently forceasm makes Intels use SSE and AMDs use 3dnow? The website looked a bit suspect and I'm not convinced though, what do you think?

Can anyone shed some light on this ^^
That used to be the case a long time ago - It's no longer true

I use -forceasm on all my AMD rigs and they all run SSE/SSE2 rather than 3DNOW
I think it's only the V4 client where this was a problem so unless you're stuck with V4 on a win98 machine or something then -forceasm will work fine

SSE2 is used on the Double-Gromacs (FahCore_79.exe) WUs and I think it may also work on the Amber WUs and QMDs (don't quote me on either of those though). It's definately not used on the normal Gromacs or the GB Gromacs WUs as they will only use SSE, it's also not on the Tinker WUs which rely solely on brute force :p

SSE2 works on QMDs but Ambers use no SSE at all, not at the moment anyway. They're like Tinkers except worse for points.

The other thing is that WUs which use SSE2 (DGromacs, QMDs) can't use SSE1, so if your CPU doesn't have SSE2 then no SSE will be used.

I was sure that my Double Gro units I'd had on my XP1700 used SSE

will check through my logs and see

edit: ahh I'm wrong again :p it didn't use SSE (or at least didn't give a message to say so anyway)
