okay i need a bit of help deciding on either build a pc with £500 and get following:

Neo2-FR mobo
gell ULL 800mhz ram
8800GT 512mb
E2180 cpu

and then upgrade again each year.... or go spend £1k and get:

asus p5k premium wifi ap
Crucial Ballistix 2gb 800mhz
8800GT 512mb
Q6600 cpu

i really wanna spend 1k but i worried in 6 months time i see the q6600 and it half the price now and go aw i should have waited........ and with the 500 i can just go and upgrade to another budget pc with the new cpus that will come out in the next year....

help me decide? :P

Although there's better quads coming, the Q6600 is still a good overclocker and is pretty good value ATM, IMO.

Just make sure you get a board that can get the best out of it. Check the Overclocking and MB forums.

build the £500 pc.

I'll help you decide. It all depends on what you run on your PC. If you play the latest games all the time, then yes there is a benefit to upgrading to the latest hardware.

If you only use a word processor, then you don't need to spend a lot of money.

I would advise on trying to find a balance between "want"/"need"/"future need"/"cost". To that end, and being a gamer, I would budget about 1000 for a system. Even more, if you intend to build a quieter system.

I place more emphasis on sound and vision, so a set of AEGO-m speakers and a good 24" monitor with a nice GFX card would get priority.

You are a student so your priorities perhaps differ.
