My brother gave me an N95 8gb phone at the weekend that he previously owned. He came down for the weekend, thought he'd lost it and then reported it lost the following day, only to find that his mate had picked it up in the cab in the way home. He got a new one through his insurance.

It has been blocked from use, and my sim won't connect to it. I was wondering if there was any way of getting it unlocked/unblocked so it can be used on my sim? At the moment it's saying sim rejected (or something along those lines).

Changing the IMEI I believe is illegal, but you could ask the network or your brother to ask them and explain the situation. Why doesn't he just give you the replacement handset?

Because the replacement handset is the one he needs, as it's the one that works.

I'm guessing if I ring up the network operator and explain the situation I'm likely to be told to bog off, aren't I?

So they wants 2 handsets one for himself one for you? On the same contract? So basically a freebie? I think that's a hard, NO. From the network.

I think your best option would be to phone up the operator (or probably get your brother to do it) and explain the situation, it was a mistake and possibly if you offer a token payment towards the cost of the handset/unblocking they might be willing to help.

Could try getting him to ring up and say that he had it blocked because he lost it but found it again.

If that doesnt work just take it to a market and ask a couple of the mobile phone stalls to unblock it for £15 or something

No one has mentioned the key to this - insurance fraud.

Lost phone - claimed - found phone.

I would suggest that the old phone is simply written off. Contacting the network may well result in - errr - hassle.

yeah thats what is going through my head. Why on earth would you call up the network, they are goin to just charge you for it instead :S

The phone belongs to the Insurance Company.
If you read the small print of the insurance policy used to claim on that phone it probably says something along the lines of "If the item is subsequently found it should be returned to the insurance company".
