hi there, i hope this is an easy one for someone to help me with.

something went wrong with my first attempt at installing win 7. Started over again and before i did, i made sure i formatted the drive again in case it had any 'dodgy' stuff from the previous failed attempt.

installed fine and up and running.

Weirdly, i get a boot menu option every time i restart windows. Also, i can only boot in into Win 7 only with the install dvd in the optical drive! If i remove the install disc from drive, it says it can't find 'boot manager' or something.

i've googled and i've looked as msconfig but that looks fine (only 1 win 7 there).

With admin rights, i've looked at bcdedit but not sure about that one..

tried: bdcedit /default {current}

Anybody come across this before?? thanks!

tried something like that.

first boot was originally set to dvd drive to do the install... then i changed it to hard disk being first boot. I just get the screen where it says it can't find boot manager etc.

if i change boot priority back to dvd then i get to select win 7 and it'll load up fine as long as i have the install disk in the dvd drive. really annoying.

It sounds like your installation has messed up somehow.

Did you have any other drives connected when you did the installation: internal HDD's, USB HDD's. memory sticks etc.?

i reckon i messed it up too. wanted to avoid anothe re-install but this has resolved it in the past before. I did attach an internal drive... refreshed and then it showed up. wouldn't have thought this would have caused it to mess up like this?? (if it is then no wonder so many ppl hate MS)

edit: off to do a complete re-install. *sigh* . will post back in 30 mins or so.

Only do an installation with the DVD drive and the drive you're installing Windows on connected.

If you have any other drives connected then some Windows installation files can get put on those drives.

did a re-intall. everything's fine now :) tbh, in the past, i've reinstalled with my other drives hooked up and it would also work as well. Took your advice this time Surveyor just to see.. may have to do this a few times to test whether or not if by removing other hdds is a 'fool proof' way of ensuring a clean/problem free install :) thanks all the same :)
