Hi.

I have a router connected to a desktop and then a have another desktop connected to this router using a USB adaptor. I have been using this fine but my router connection is not secure and when I have made it secure I have been struggling to get the desktop that is using the adaptor to connect.

I have emailed Belkin for advise but they have not been very helpful so any advise would be helpful. I have managed to make the router secure the problem is when I am trying to connect the other desktop.

The email I sent to Belkin is below and I am going to try this again tomorrow so any step by step instructions would be a great help.

I hope this makes sense, I know I have waffled a little.

:)

I have managed to connect my Belkin router to my desktop using a network cable but I am also looking at running the router through another desktop. This other desktop does not have wireless and therefore I have purchased a Cable & Wireless 802.11g Wireless LAN Mini USB Adaptor

I have managed to connect this and it works fine but this is only when the router is unsecure. I have used the following settings to make the router secure -
Security mode - WPA-PSK (no server)
Encryption Technique - TKIP

When I am on the other desktop and trying to connect it with the secure settings it does not work as you don`t connect it via the windows software. Instead you have to connect it by selecting the C&W icon on the toolbar. To then make it connect I need to enter a number of settings and I am not sure what this need to be.

I have managed to connect my laptop fine but this is only due to the fact that to connect the router you use the Vista software to help you with this.

Would it be possible to either connect remotley to my desktops or send me a step by step guide on how I would complete this on each computer. If the affected desktop had wireless built in then this wouldn`t be a problem so it seems as though it is the C&W adaptor that is causing the problem.

Sorry, here was the response from Belkin support

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Belkin Technical Support.

We understand that you are facing a concern with WPA

When a quotation mark is used in a WPA PSK key on the F5D7633, the key gets truncated at the position of the mark when the router is restarted. To work-around: don`t use quotation marks in the Pre-shared key.

Note: WPA supports on Vista and Windows XP SP2 only.
2. WPA 2 supports on Vista and Windows XP SP3 only.
