Hi guys,

Well i had decided on the 20" Philips 8ms panel, then i popped to a local PC shop to see what it was like before popping up to OCUK to buy it, and due to the fact it was widescreen it seemed small :(

So i get tempted by the Dell 2405FPW, which seems all good, but im iffy about the response times 12ms G2G, 16ms Black to white, before i was using a 10ms black to white.

Now im no huge gamer, i havnt played any FPS other than CS:S and Quake 4 for a while, normally play games like wow. I cannot see the difference on the 10ms panel and my CRT in either FPS's or in wow.

But as ive never used a 16m black to white panel before i dunno how much worse than the 10ms panel it will be.

Also ive just read about the delay on the 2405FPW that peeps have noticed, yet i havnt seen anyone even notice it in the official 2405FPW post, so i guess it cannot be to bad.

Then just to finish off i keep seeing rumours about a 8ms 2407, being shown this or early next month, so maybe i should put up with this ageing CRT thats starting to annoy me with dodgy clarity and see what happens (but we all know what happens then you endup waiting for years ;) )

So after all that any pointers from anyone, how bad is the lag/ghosting on the 2405FPW, should i give in and go for the smaller 20"?

Im no huge gamer either, but after getting my 2405 recently, I decided to play Far Cry to test the monitor, and I can confidently say, I noticed no ghosting at all. IMO the 2405 is perfectly capable of playing games, and is absolutely ideal for graphics work and general desktop use.

Looks amazing no lag/ghosting that I can notice.

Max Payne2 has minor ghosting issues but these are related more to the game engine introducing a blur effect than the TFT.

The major issue for the 2405 is can your system handle gaming @ 1920x1200. Even my 7800GTX512 struggles a little in some games @ this res with max details. You either need to compensate by turning down some gfx quality settings or vsync off. Vsync off is more noticeable @ 1920x1200 so usually turning the gfx down a little bit + AA off.

As a minimum you need either: 7800GTX512/7800GTX256SLI or single X1800/X1900 & or Xfire + a fast CPU + 2GB Ram to give the smoothest results.

Anything else will struggle @ the 1920x1200 native res that this TFT looks best @.

The amount of computing/gfx power required to power any TFT over 20" is huge. This is one of the reasons why some choose either a 1600x1200 TFT or LCD/HD TV as either will be happy with a cheaper system as the demands are less.

thanks for the info guys, ill be honest atm, my PC cannot run games at 1920x1200, but i dont play many games, and im mostly after it for windows use, where i will make use of the resolution.

thats the idea Magic Man, put up with the 1:1 scaling now, knowing that the panels more future proof than a 1280x1024 19" panel :)
