Hi guys,

I have the following kit:

XP Pro Base Unit A
XP Pro Base Unit B

XP Pro Laptop C
Vista Laptop D

I am able to remote from A,B,C to A,B,C,D.

However, I cannot remote from D to A,B or C. So, Vista to XP.

I also use dyndns and this isn't working either.

(on Vista laptop) When I enter credentials and click connect the button whites-out for a few seconds and then returns to normal. No messages displayed.

I can ping any machine, including my dyndns.org from the Vista laptop. File shares and printer shares work fine.

No domain, just a Workgroup.

Firewalls have all been switched off for testing.

netstat -a shows that 3389 is in listening mode on all machines.

I am at a complete loss as to why this isn't working. Any ideas?

I shall install telnet on Vista and report back.

EDIT-Telnet just gives a black screen with blinking cursor in the corner. I believe that this means it has successfully connected?

EDIT 2-It seems I made an error in my initial testing. The Vista laptop can remote into XP Pro Base Unit B and the XP Laptop. And the XP Pro Base unit B CANNOT remote into the other XP base unit. So the issue seems to lie with the XP Pro base unit A.

I'm assuming you've tried both name and ip?

Yea, the blinking means its working, it would just sit and wait otherwise.

So it literally just closes itself when it fails? Seems very odd.

To go down ^ that line of thought, are the firewall exceptions in place on the machines?

Does anything happen in the event log on either the server or the client when it just kicks you out?

If he can get to 3389 via telnet then the port is forwarded but that doesn't mean its forwarded to the right place, can you double check that?

Just to check... you are trying to connect from two different sites right due to the dyndns? maybe i'm blind but you didnt actually say that, lol.
