Unable to install any software !! HELP !!!!!!

Hi,
My system has been running smoothly for many months. However, I suddenly find myself unable to install any software and get one of the following prompts:

' The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed.This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance. '

' 1607: Unable to install InstallShield Scripting runtime. '

I'm using WinXP Pro.

Download the Windows Installer 3.1 from Microsoft.

Syph, I installed 'WindowsInstaller-KB893803-v2-x86.exe' but it hasn't fixed the problem even after a reboot. Any other possibilites ?

Problem sorted !! :-)

Ended up having to delete some entries left behind in the in the registry following uninstalling the app, then re-booted, re-installed, re-booted and hey presto !!
