i had my E2200 running at 2.93GHz with 2 sticks of 1GB memory
i have just taken out the 2GB and replaced it with 2 2GB sticks
it booted fine went into vista fine
checked on cpu-z and overclock fine and 4GB memory showing up
i switched my computer off and when switching back on it restarted after about 10 seconds
going into the bios i see the the cpu host clock is disabled
i had the same problem with 4 1GB sticks of memory and could not get an overclock no matter what i did that is why i went for 2 2GB sticks
but i seems to be the same problem

i have a gigabyte GA P35 DS3L M/B

why did it boot ok 1st time but failed everytime after that?
will i just have to run with either 2GB memory and an overclock 2.9GHz
or 4GB at stock settings?

any advise thanks

Could be the Memory isnt very compatible with the board, strange that it went first time around.

i have come to conclusion that it must be a motherboard problem
as it will overclock with 2GB of memory either 2 1GB sticks or 1 2GB stick
if i put in 4GB either 4 1GB or 2 2GB it will not clock
after changing the settings and saving in the bios it reboots
but during the reboot it will restart without the overclock enabled
i think i will just have to live without an overclock or just put 2GB in
what do you guys think?

If you notice, ocuk state when selling their pre-bult oc'd systems that if you up the ram capacity you will lose some oc'ing capability. Think it's to do with the chipsets tbh.

I had an e6600 at 3.6 for a year with 2x1gb sticks of ocz plat rev2 on an evga 680i, but when i upgraded to 2x2gb ocz reaper, the oc became unstable, and i had to go down to 3.5. 4gb isn't a problem with my p5k and q6600, it's running at 3.6 rock solid. Must just be certain chipsets i guess

i think my psu is a 500w not positive though

i have done a search on google and a few people have had problems with 4 sticks on this M/B
but it is usually ok with 2 sticks be it 2GB or 4GB

would i be better running at 2.2GHz with 6GB memory
or 2.93GHz with 2GB memory

Seems a common problem with gigabyte's not keeping their overclock settings and not booting with certain ram, or all slots populated. I don’t think its chipset related, I just think it’s a stability issue with certain boards.

I gather your ram is run within spec?

would i be better running at 2.2GHz with 6GB memory
or 2.93GHz with 2GB memory

For most people 2GBs of system ram is more than enough, running a higher clock would see more benefits in most cases.
